iv compiled some of teh ship names in eve and where they come from, if anyone else has any additions please add them here.
abaddon = demon lord
astarte = astaroth
enyo = evil god -waster of cities
ishkur = babylonian thunder god
thanatos = demon of death and mortality
eos = greek goddess of dawn
sleipnir = odins 8 legged horse
helios = greek sun god
keres = greek death spirit
charon =greek ferryman of the dead
fenrir = big norse wolf
cerberus = 3 headed dog
deimos = a greek word for terror
muninn = odins raven
phobos = greek word for fear
ares = roman war god
taranis = celtic thunder god
eris = greek goddess of discord
basilsik = european death glace lizard thing
oneiros = greek dream demons
golem = jewish animated inanimate object
kronos =a secret 32-bit graphical workstation developed in the Soviet Union in the mid-1980s.
lachesis = greek personification of destiny
huginn = another raven of odin

Ishtar is the summerian/babylonian earth/ferillity goddess. She reigns over birth, fertillity and pleasure. Astarte is another of her names.
Hyperion is one of the titans holding the earth in greek mythology.
Sin is the summerian/babylonian moon goddess.

I doubt it that for something that is supposed to have a mythological name is actually based on a soviet workstation...
instead of the Titan of greek mythology.

thinking it was fairly obvious that kronos can also refer to cronus the titan that fathered zeus.

Nidhoggur (Nf=h÷ggur) - Dragon or serpent eating the roots of the World Tree Yggdrasill in norse mythology.
Hel - In other words Hell, also from norse mythology.
Naglfar - Ship made of fingernails and toe nails of the dead. During Ragnarok the giants and a hoard of evil would come by it to the battlefield.
Fenrir - Wold, son of Loki. He ate Odin at the battle in Ragnarok.

Astarte is a goddess in a few different cultures. Mainly of fertility and war, but she was also the Phoenecian goddess of the moon. Astaroth comes from Jewish mythology where she is seen as a demon.

Leviathan - Biblical sea monster.
Wyvern - Similar to a dragon but had wings in place of its forearms.
Chimera - Mythical beast with the body of a lion, wings of a bat, tail of a serpent and the heads if a lion, goat and a dragon.
Archon - I believe is an angelic leader type thing.

Erebus is the son of chaos and a manifestation of darkness and shadow (appropriate dontyathink?), and brother to Nyx
It's also the name given to the most southern active volcano in the world... in southsea.
edit: apparently incest is best. Erebus and Nyx got it together and Moros was the result. He represents doom and is undefeatable... xmas must be fun in that family

Erebus - Personification of darkness. Brother (and lover) of Nyx.
Nyx - Goddess of the night. Mother of Moros, Thanatos, Charon, Keres, Nemesis and Eris (that's jsut the EVE related ones  )
Moros - Personification of doom/fate.
Charon - The ferryman on the river Styx.
Keres - Female spirits of death.
Nemesis - Goddess of divine retribution.
All greek.

Ahh Your right. Hel was the offpring of Loki and Angurbo=a. Odin cast Hel into Niflheim, which is the underworld.

Hmm, let's see...almost all Caldari ships are named after animals, mostly birds. So Drake would most likely be referring to the male duck, don't y'think?

When I was a very young child some official health visitor came round to check whether I was going to be an idiot later in life. She asked me all sorts of questions about pictures while I just sat there and tried to ignore her.
Then she pointed at a picture of a drake and called it a duck and I corrected her before she'd finished speaking. The conclusion was that I was destined to grow up as a smartarse. So I did.

Gallente ships usually have mythological Greek names (Erebus, the night-father, mate of Nyx, the night mother, who created everything else, or Kronos, the father of Zeus, Hades and Poseidon). Minmatar ships have Nordic mythological names, storms, or similar 'punching' names. Amarr ships usually have some connection to the current monotheistic religions (Cristianity, Islam, Judaism), such as Apocalypse, and ending myth shared by all 3 (i believe). Caldari ships lastly usually have bird (raven) or mythical beast names (rokh, pheonix, basilisk).
Knowing this, i wonder how you managed to talk about demons and russian supercomputers... What search engine were you using? Or why not just look on Wikipedia? :P
