Looks ok but the page you use to create the account isn't a secure page and requires card details amongst other details. It looks like to goes to a secure server when submitted but all my other sites I've registered with have a secure page for this sort of thing from the word go.
The login page for accounts is secure which is fair enough and I don't think there's anything dodgy going on with overclockers but a little paranoia doesn't do any harm, especially where personal details are concerned.
Thanks in advance.

Ive spent thousands with overclockers over the past 4 years and ive NEVER had a problem, not with my details, not with service, not with delivery, nothing. My items arrived on time, never any delay. Unlike other sites in the UK, they actually have a dedicated customer service line to report faults or to give support/help. I like them.

Edited by: SoftRevolution on 01/01/2008 21:04:48 I think OCUK are on the level.
OTOH I've heard significant volume of complaints about them from many different people over a long period of time. Personally the couple of times I ordered from them I had no issues but still having heard what I have I'd probably go with Dabs or someone these days. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

I've bought lots of stuff from them back in the day, but dont anymore, i had some order problems once and nothing was shipped and i was not notified of the problem so i was kinda left in limbo for a month with about 500 euro taken off my credit card, but once i got onto them they sorted it and sent out the stuff, overall i've probably had 10 buy orders with them and most went fine so yea they are on the level, i just use a more local online shop these days www.komplett.ie which is very good

I have, I'd been sent to wrong brand of ram and wanted it swaped for the correct one. I phoned them up, waited no more than 5 minutes, talked to the chap and it was all sorted out, no quibbles. I was also very impressed that when I was emailing them about it, the emails were being forwarded to the same bloke, so he knew exactly what I was on about. A week after sending back the ram, I got the correct brand in the post. - Eve IGB Store Template - The complete eve retail solution. |

You can't rely on IE / Firefox telling you wether its a secure page or not. Quite often it is wrong (can be faked too). OCUK is one example, Paypal didn't show as a secure login for me for quite a while, nor did Scan.co.uk. ---

I use OCUK quite regularly and I've not seen a funny security page like that? I pretty much make sure all credit-card concerned pages are secure before I click anything though.
The guys at OCUK are pretty good, seems like a small dedicated company - when calling via the fellytone, almost instant pick up so probs not too busy, and it was pretty quite in the background. Just little things I notice lol...

OCUK are going down hill - they are usually overpriced, charge over the odds on shipping and there after sales service (RMA, Refunds etc) is rubbish.
I use scan over them anytime, as they have a no questions asked RMA service, that is quick - and they are usually always cheaper.
I had to wait 14 days for OCUK to rma some faulty RAM - it takes about 20mins to test for bad ram, so why it took so long, I have no idea. During this time, I called them for an update and the "support rep" was so rude.
"Hi, just calling for an update, regarding RMA ref blah blah blah" "Its in the queue, we will let you know, bye"
And he hung up..
Not quite what I wanted to here - it had been 10 days already.
Meh, personally scan.co.uk ftw.

That's one way to lose customers...
I've used OC several times now. Had several problems - a clearance TFT Monitor I ordered didn't come with the specific Power Adaptor it required and I had to contact the manufacturers to get one (1-2 months later). Where I work we'd never sell a customer a clearance/display model of something without the correct cables/accessories that were meant to be with it and if we did, we'd at least be so kind as to inform them about it. I got no warnings of any kind that i'd require additional parts - I just got a monitor by itself, shipped in a box of bubblewrap
Other times it's just been ordering stock that was apparently 'In Stock' according to their website, yet has taken 3-4 weeks to arrive. I can somewhat understand how they might not be able to actually find it since I work in a similar environment (a warehouse with so much stock going in and out that its near-impossible to organise it properly) but really, if a customer has something ordered that you appear to have but can't find, you don't just sit there and hope some turn up sometime. You contact them about it, apologise for the inconvieniance and at the very least present them the option of waiting a few more days or changing their order to something in stock.
I don't have an issue with OC prices or even delivery times, but their communication with their customers could REALLY be improved.

Always used OCUK for all the pc hardware I order and I've only had good experiences with them, the forums are pretty good too. The only problem i've really had is their choice of curier, citylink has problems half the time with my orders. On most things their prices are excellent though.

I have unfortunately, I had a dead stick of RAM some 18 months ago that made the computer refuse to boot up if installed. Returned it to OcUK, no fault found apparently. Got the RAM back still not working. Return it yet again to be told it is "working fine" (at this point I had proved it didn't work in three different computers at home). Well after getting charged even more in postage I ended up calling the manufacturer Mushkin in the US. A week later I finally had some working RAM shipped from them. But that wasn't thanks to OcUK as they dodge the replacement completely. Not impressive service for a ú400 product.
A few months later I had an ATI x1900xtx also bought from OcUK at the same time as the RAM go pop. Well it _only_ took them 14 weeks to replace it.
I will only use scan.co.uk from now on. They get things replaced when broken and are normally cheaper than OcUK, unfortunately they are a bit slow to get the latest and greatest in stock at times.

Bought 2 full machines worth of components off them, as well as a bunch of other bits and bobs, haven't had any faulty components and everything has been delivered in 1-2 days (company is English and I live in N Ireland, so I'm happy with their speed).
I've also a few Welsh friends who use them, and again haven't had any problems.

Whilst I wouldn't say they're scam artists, I am a former customer who would no longer use them.
FOr years I bought all components from them, and found them to be fine. HOwever, the one time things went wrong it exposed their awful service levels.
A MB was delivered to me faulty along with RAM, CPU and GFX card. When I built the system, t would not boot, not even POST. I spent a long time myself (a whole day) isolating the fault. When i tried to call their helpline it was always busy and there was no option to mail them (i believe this has now changed). Anyway, i was given an RMA and returned all the parts at my own cost. 2 weeks later, i received an email to say that they had tested the parts and they were all fine and woujld be sent back to me.
Upon receipt I rebuilt the system to have exactly the same problem... would no POST. Again I went through the same ardous process of trying to call their helpline. Eventually after literally HOURS of trying and getting up at 7am to call them i got a second RMA, so i returned the parts at my own cost again. 2 weeks later I got an email to say the MB was faulty and they would replace it.
I could have killed one of them, i was without a PC for a month because of their lax service and shoddy "testing" department.
Not to be trusted. Unfortunately i have only had good experiences with SCAN and so cannot rate their service levels. YOu can conly judge a compnany really when something goes wrong. Anyone can take a box and post it to someone, but how well do they cope when it doesn't work?

Yes. After 14 months my Gainward GFX card went t1ts up (3 yr warrenty) I phoned the support number, got through after a usual 'you are inposition #* in the queue'. I was given an instant RMA. I sent the card back, at my own cost (- whos cost should it have been?), and recieved the replacement card back the NEXT day. They had sent out a NEW card the day I rma'd the old one. They did exactly the same with my old Antec case. When I ordered this new computer in November, they sent out the wrong DVD-R/W, I phoned the day it arrived and I recieved a new one the next day, by courier and all I had to do was put the old one back in the box and hand it to the courier.. no charge. I have used both Scan and Dabs and have found no other probelsm than: With Dabs, you can still order an item even if it is not in stock. However, you full order wont be sent until the item is in stock. I dont see the point in this.

Well thought i would do some digging before making a decision. Looked up 'Spie' user name on the UCUK forum and there is a large amount of racial themed threads started by him. I would link but it would only be useful for people with a registered OCUK forum profile.
Never had a problem with customer service with these guys and they can be overpriced but you generally get things the next day.
Well something to think about at least.

lack of hassle = worth paying a couple of extra quid tbh.
