Tell that to those with prefrontal lobotomies. Fortunately, it wasn't an opinion: it really does serve no purpose to have bid below the reserve unless that truly wasn't a reserve and it was a temporary plead number. Still pointless. Free bump.

how about when you aren't sure about the price and don't want to scare potential bidders away by listing a reserve that is too high?
having a hidden reserve allows you to change your mind about it if the bidding doesn't go too well
