I can't seem to enable my hardware acceleration for my Razer Barracuda soundcard, any idea as of how?
Dont think any additional system info is needed apart from that i'm running the Premium clien on Windows Vista Ultimate X64 with proper Razer drivers, I cant seem to tick the box on my other sound devices either, but the Razer is one im confident of that i should be able to say it can hardware accelerate, as i thus far managed to set it to accelerated on all games. :)

For some reason CCP decided to ban us from using OpenAL hardware sound in Vista or XP. It was working for months then for no reason a ban. Passive shield tanking guide click here |

Microsoft didnt remove hardware acceleration from Vista. They removed Direct Sound from vista. This is the old way of dealing with it. OpenAL is the new standard, many games use this. Youre hardware acceration card will continue to work in vista as long as the game uses OpenAL not Direct Sound.
Creative have er.. created, an application called ALchemy which translates Direct Sound into OpenAL in old games, with their Audigy and X-Fi cards, but the compatibility list of games is still quite small.
ALchemy used to work in EVE if you created a custom profile. This has since been disabled by CCP for one reason or another. Basically it required a couple of files to be placed in a certain sub directory within the EVE install folder, the EVE client now see's these files and removes them. There is a workaround for this on the forum somewhere. Which is a moot point if you are using a barracuda card I guess.
At this point CCP have not implemented hardware accelerated sound using OpenAL. Despite the fact Vista has been out nearly a year now, but hell even creative are still fudging up their drivers for Vista. One year on and theyve had a long time in development to fix this, lets not forget Vista went RTM in November'06.
To sum it up, we are waiting for CCP to make a proper Vista compatible EVE client which includes OpenAL hardware accelerated sound. Which I hope will happen not long from now.... CCP, I'm looking in your direction. --- I'm in yr posts dleetin all yr sigs - Cortes Fight the power! - Cortes |

I tried EVE with the latest alchemy and it worked... unfortunately it crashed using two clients... EVE not the system that is..
Razor is a software chipset anyway AFAIK so it cant take advantage of Hardware acceleration.
