like progressive battle damage such as stuff breaking off during a fight, particle effects such as those you might see from an anti tank round hitting armor - a spray of molten metal, secondary effects from wepons fire such as explosive decompression and blowtorch fire effects.
ships going limp rendered imobile but not exploding forcing the pilot to eject from it in his pod if he wants out
etc etc

I'd love to see more battle damage affects.
I'd like to first see turret effects improved so that lasers leave scars on armor and can be seen melting into shields. Hybrid turrets would impact with little tiny explosions all over the hull or ships, projectile turrets would slam into their target spraying shrapnel and debris in all directions!
More damage effects in every respect can only help this game!

In a Fleet Battle with 200 ships, do you think this would increase lag, or decrease lag?

It doesn't need to be sent over the network, all that needs to be sent is that this person shot that person (like it is now) and that they did shield or armor damage. If your computer can't handle it, turn it off. Now if parts of the ship broke off and became collide able objects...

in a 1vs1 to 10vs10, do you think this would improve fun, or decrease it?. Not every1 wants to suffer over others 'omgwtfbbqzomgfleetbattle' obsession. And yes i do fleet battles to. Just make it an option.

Wait, we can see our spaceships in battle? I usually just zoom out or turn on my navigation map and rely on my overview to see the mean red thingies.
Well, that's what I used to do. The recent Trinity upgrade has actually made things a lot easier on my computer and I'm playing the game without having to gimp my graphics. So, who knows? Maybe, if the efficiency of the graphics improves even more, they'll slip in visible damage. I mean, they already have flames for structure damage right? ---

Yum.
Of course, being able to turn it off at will would be a requirement.
The client already has all the info it would need to do this client-side. It knows how much shield/armor/structure you have (it displays it), and it knows what kind of ammo just got fired at you (there is a difference between the color of different types, most noticable when you're fighting amarrian ships). -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. It's possible the client doesn't pull this up until you target someone.

God no.. please no...
We recently "kudos programmers" at our workplace too, and now everything has to be in full 3d this, animated that, stupid stuff nobody actually wants. Lead times on all output has gone up by a factor of 5.
The client has never been as unreliable, slow and needlessly cumbersome as it is now. They even made the old graphics run slower, presumably to encourage people to upgrade hardware as the new graphics is all they want to support in the future.
The graphics are less important than the audio on this game, and the audio sucks. Quite how we reached the year 110 (or whatever) and my HUD can't go "Ping" when somebody enters local I have no clue.
So giving ships more battle damage graphics (that would only appear if you have a lock on somebody anyway - for reasons nobody really knows) to lag me up and **** me off more is highly undesirable. --

At least 50% of people have the sound off in eve, in favour of their own music or communications (or just to improve performance).
And your HUD won't go ping when someone enters local so you can't AFK mine in lowsec It's already been told to you bearish types that Local isn't an intel tool, so stop willing it to be. ---

Edited by: Reacz on 02/01/2008 10:11:53 I'd like to see some form of scarring or such like, it would add atmosphere to the game, some better explosions too.

Forget about showing damage or flames or any of that totally useless stuff.
I want a can of pain and a really, really big brush so that I can paint my ship with leopard spots (to much my underwear) or what ever other color scheme comes to mind.
Please can I have a pink Raven to strike terror into the heart of people?

oh yes any new effects would be amazing, but I do agree improving the sound should be a priority.
I may be wishing too much but the ability to ram bigger enemy ships would be a wonderful addition for ship damage, if i'm going to die in a rifter I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory

I'm definitely gonna agree with lofty! Remove local in systems without stations, and add some backstory like "Stations boost the sensors of ships in the local system, so pilots can see who is there...blah, blah..."
Dunno, but meh

I'm still displeased that when a shot 'MISSES COMPLETELY', it's shown as getting a direct hit in the centre of your ship, etc. Sad thing is most people just got used to it...

Oh yeah would be fun watching intys pop bcuz they bump a cap ship lol. Even bumping into a bc would cause your ship to bust. The ingame sound is just useless. The explosion sound like too short wavefiles, they should fade out but with no earthlike conditions(which apperently not exist in space ^^) there wont be no sound, atleast none you could hear. Also the sound off stargates just makes me nuts. I turned off the sound after 2 days playing anyway. The only good sound feature in eve is eve voice which pwns teamspeak and some vent servers imho. A line which says crew:[insert number] in the ship information would be kwel though. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes, ty. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes ooooh snap. |

hehe
though local should be removed imo, and im pretty sure our chinese brosefs have found a way to make local ping quite a bit when anyone else enters, doesnt matter how many hours they are farming for they can still insta safe or log everytime
I guess they could just use an external program to make noise when there is a colour change in the local window or something? im sure you'd get the banstick for it but farming to launder and sell for RL isk is meant to bannable too
