Recently I decided to try Tabula Rasa out, having never played WoW or any other MMO apart from EvE ofc and Planetside before SOE balls'd that one up, i thought this might make a change. However im finding it very hard to get into, i thought eve was hard to get into and understand but ofc you had something to look forward to like pvp, corps, isk etc etc.
In this all i feel like there is to do is just Pve.. and thats it. All i do is go out of this camp place shoot some Bane alien things, horned pigs, big tree things, more bane crap and squid things that live in caves... Its also very very small, you run round an island for abit and you might be lucky enough to bump into someone.. then die...respawn again and repeat what you've been doing for the past hour.
Does anyone else play this or at least tried it? If you do play it, please give me some pointers.

I played it in the beta. I only ran around in the first and second area you come to... and I'd have to say from that, all your thoughts are all spot on.

So theres no real epic battles and what not? So its just basicly a game about grinding?

I installed it over the holidays and it managed to annoy me within 30 minutes by dint of auto-failing the tutorial mission I was on because my connection dropped. So far I am not too impressed. First impression was that they reskinned City of Heroes. Amost identical character creation, same basic gameplay concept with a couple of somewhat interesting bits tacked on. The graphics are ok, although below what I was expecting for something that had been in development for so long and the PvE falls far short of being engaging. Tbh I don't see myself renewing this one beyond the one-month sub. A shame, because I was a big fan of Garriott's games back in the day and had high hopes for TR.

I bought it as well
I'm liking it. Let me tell you why. The first 20 levels, I think, are teaching you how to play. Each enemy has a weakness that you will need to adjust to. You have few powers and hence can learn them really well. The lvl 20+ game can be a real treat. The player has many choices in combat and the NPC spawns are interesting in their use of tactics. The tutorial does not begin to address the various aspects to the game (sound familiar?) If you played City of Heroes then the first 15 lvls in TR could be considered Atlas Park and Kings row. One of the things I like is that in the heat of battle I actually found myself looking for cover. (Helps to mitigate damage) Its been awhile where the environment has a direct effect on combat.
PVP - Have not tried it yet

Bought it, played it, think its great fun. Its only starting out so i dont expect it to be perfect, but once you go in with a fairly open mind and some friends it can be a great team frag fest.
Love the starship troopers type gamesplay of defending the outposts and then having then over run and having to recapture them. Very BF'ish!
Game is far from perfect, but its by no means bad. I'd definitely recommend it if you have a good group of friends that will tag along and play with you.

I play TR much more that Eve now.
I enjoy doing the missions and don't find them a drag. There is some good ideas that CCP could steal. The NPCs are not so brain dead and will try to run away when you nail them. They also try some some simple tactics like outflanking and taking cover, which is good.
The story telling is good. Much better that Eve. The TR universe is more than just a place to go shooting, learning the backstory is very enjoyable.
I enjoy fighting for control points the most. Chaining a string of kills together is very satisfying.
I don't PvP. There a some really bad PvP balance issues. And there are so many exploits that it is not worth the hassle. Also they haven't found a fix to the kiting mage problem that affects all the MMOs I play.

What they did wrong in TR is player interaction and communication. Hell, even WoW is better in that area, but TR is tons more fun than WoW as a game. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes, ty. ... - Cortes honestly now... the sig is 25k :S |

I was keen to try TR for a while but then the news from beta players wasn't encouraging and so my interest stalled. And then, I was looking for a game to play over Christmas and thought about TR. I am surprised because it's actually fun despite the beta players bad reports.
Of course, there's repetitiveness but City of Heroes is like that as well. TR has one difference - cloning. No need to repeat all the lower levels, just clone your character at levels 4, 14 and 29 and you can also enjoy playing the other branch in the class tier.
I've gotten four characters to 20 in a few days, thanks to cloning.
The intances take rather too long to complete as you can't logout and finish them later because if you do that, you have to start again.
I am having fun in TR and I reckon it'll keep me interested for a while.

Yesturday I was pottering around and came across this capable base, it was friendly at the time so I thought i'd stay around then sh*t hit the fan and all these bane guys tried taking the base. Was real fun tbh, had loads of people fighting them off and i finally got to see one of those ASF Mechs you first see in the start up trialer.
After that im into it abit more now. Just need some peeps to hang round with.

That type of base is known as a control point.
There's a couple of missions handed out inside the CP's that involve collecting tokens from Bane that you've killed. Don't forget, if you're collecting the tokens, you can always go to another copy of the shard to assault if the CP always seems to be in AFS hands.

I was considering this as it sounded quite good at first, almost like Planetside done right.
From the sounds of everything I've actually heard about it though - my expectations were completely wrong and it's just WoW in first-person with a sci-fi theme ... with more grinding

If you're more inclined into the WoW style of MMO's, Tabula Rasa will appeal to you, especially when the Bane attack a control point and you rally up a couple of people to hold it down/attack it.
Some of the best moments in the game is all at the CP when the Bane attack/defend it. Pity it feels like a grind moreso when attacking.
Defending gives that extra special "ohfu- I'm gonna die!~" feeling, which gets a point.
Overall, its a good month's distraction. Treat it like WoW, though, and you're facing your arse out the door. -

Played the trial.
The grind was more was a bit excessive.
The quests were boring, the weapons were pretty cool. Just didn't want to spend money on it.
