Any plans on relesing these as playable ships? They are pretty cool and I am sure most players would enjoy seeing scary looking Amarr hull ships.... even if they do shield tank and fire rails.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 03/01/2008 14:18:37 I was JUST thinking this while running the "gone berserk" mission with EoM. Huge bounty payoffs and 16 million in salvage (if you're willing to wait around for minutes on end to jettison all the scrap metal you get from those ships.)
It got me thinking: maybe CCP should program random commander spawns for factions that players cannot run missions for. In these commander spawns there is a chance for a faction ship BPC, like an EoM Apoc or Punisher or something. These ships would be better than normal faction ships, but much rarer because a player can't get them at any LP store. I don't see anything fundamentally wrong with this idea. After all, faction ships are like "named ships", in that they are better than normal, but not as good as T2. EoM and such faction ships would be similar, but at a higher meta level.
I can dig it.
edit: also awake for the second 24 hour period. No inquiries as to why, please.

QFT. The guy has an interesting suggestion, quit trolling his sigs. Which, BTW, are very clever, and even DEV approved!
There are quite a few ships that really ought to be playable in the game and aren't. Personally, I would MUCH rather see an easier method of gaining Faction ships over adding more T2 ships that aren't that big an improvement over the T1 ones. I mean, wouldn't it have been easier to simply add more playable FACTION ships than to create all these crazy new T2 ships that don't really add much to the game?
Personally I would MUCH rather be able to get my hands on Serpentis or Guardian Angel BS than a T2 BS, but it's nigh-on impossible to do! We need an easier way to get our hands on Faction gear. The T2 BPC drops in loot would be a nice way to do it. It would lower the cost of Faction gear, and give a profit opportunity to more people outside of hanging out in lowsec and running pirate missions.

So the both of you were sad enough to view all 16 (soon to be 35) CCP sigs to start a troll, insted of stopping at the first?
Not even bob and goons troll each other's sigs, so this marks a all new low in forums.

I agree. There are at least a douzen ship models (mostly frigs, unfortunately) which aren't player flyable, and that's not including modified player ones like the EoM railboats. It would be a real treat to see these become available, if for nothing else than to spice up the game.
However, I'd like to see them more common than LP store ships rather than rarer. People seem to rarely fly faction ships as it is; only mission runners or the filthy rich use them as "normal" ships. Making something rarer than even that will just mean people will hoarde them in their docking bay and never use 'em. ___________________________________

Absolutely.
Think about it. Has anyone here ever actually SEEN a "Gold Magnate" in space? What about the Opux luxury yacht? There are just so many ships that are supposedly IN the game, but you just flat NEVER see them because they are either a) Obscenely rare or B) NPC only. This needs to change.
CCP needs to seed a few BPC's for ships that have gone out of circulation and/or are NPC faction ships. Perhaps giving them out as rewards for larger/more difficult missions. It's not as though this concept is uncommon either.
For example, I personally received a BPC for a Large EM Smartbomb II, with a 1 run, 100 unit limit as a reward for running "Pot and Kettle" a 5 stage level 4 mission series successfully. (I donated it to my corp, so no, you can't have it.) I would have been MORE than happy to get a BPC for a Faction ship like a Comet or a Fed Navy Vexor too.
CCP needs to include Faction BPC's as rewards for larger missions, and possibly as Rat loot drops in lieu of large Agent rewards. (sort of a "hidden" reward for bothering to run a smaller ISK mission and to loot the wrecks.)

More faction ships would be fantastic, especially if it was more viable to use them outside of showing off/missions. Because let's face it the NPC ships almost always look about 10 times hotter then the player ones do (I want a black/silver Serpentis Vexor).

I'd like to see more of the NPC ships available too, seeing as pretty much every one looks better than anything available to capsuleers. Guristas with their fancy camo stripes, the sleek Serpentis, the bloodied Blood Raiders etc. A bit more variety in space is always nice. -------------------------------------

All you need to do is watch the alliance tournament or call up Voogru and you'll see the Luxury Yacht.
I also think Tyrrax saw the Gold Magnate once....perhaps....maybe.....I don't know.

No one has seen the Gold Magnate in years. Tyrrax got empire ganked in it by m0o back in 2004, and there was only one. Since then, he's achieved the record for most unique ships lost(Impoc, 2006, Impageddon, 2007), but he is probably the only person who actually flies uniques regularly into combat.

And THAT IS the problem!
If you look up these ships on the EVE-O website or in-game, the description makes them seem like they should be as common as any other higher-end ship (IE: You will see a few, but not too many). But the in-game reality is FAR from that!
Why are essentially EXTINCT ships like the Gold Magnate even in the item database anymore? What is the point in getting the hopes of new players up that they will be able to fly these ships, and then dashing them when they find out that either A) the ship is extinct because there was only ever one in the game and it got destroyed or B) They will never get one because the devs give them out to people they like and nobody else.
It's MORONIC and CRUEL to do this to new players. Basically telling them, "I'm sorry, but because you weren't here at launch and/or make buddy buddy with the Devs then you just can't have that ship that we made seem like it would be really common. Sucks to be you, doesn't it? Ha ha!"
The NPC ships are the same way. Basically, as far as I am concerned, if the ship is in the game, and can be piloted by an NPC (excluding Jove, Drones and Concord, for obvious reasons) then it should be attainable for any player to have one, with a reasonable amount of labor and/or ISK. Period.
Ok CCP, let's get on the stick here and get 'er done! I wanna be in my Guardian Angels Mega by Easter!
