IT just ruins EVE's reputations for having great graphics!
When im showing off the game to friends i have to say.. oh by the way... the sun shines through the planets and ships and looks totaly lame.. Also it might be a good idea to fix the warping graphics that screwed up on the patch before last..
where it flickers on and off.. mostly behing the ship.

Bjarna: Upgrade your system, it works on any video card made in the last 4 years, and thats pretty old for a video card.
PS if you want to complain about this issue complain to the driver manufacturers of microsofts directX team. If you wont upgrade to an up to date system, the devs simply dont have the tools to code that in.

The sun occlution option does nothing for me. On my old gfx card (gf4mx), it never worked. On my new gfx card (radeon 9800pro) it always works. I've heard that it's a problem with nvidia drivers, but that may be based on guesses. Seems to happen more (or only?) on nvidia cards anyway.

If you use the occlusion button, you should understand that some cards do not support this option. I know Geforce 2 does not.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

GeForce 2 doesn't, GeForce 4 does. ____________________________________________

Edited by: Tuonela Rautamieli on 19/03/2004 11:27:08 Sun occlusion uses HW vertex/pixel shader. It must be supported by card. This occlusion also crash (in space) multiple eve-client if its on.
And next time, dont write all with capitals in topic.

HAve a cry! WAHH caps lock.......
I have a Gforce 4.. dont tell me to upgrade my card.. becasue it works fine with all my other games.. which tells me that this particular effect wasn't programmed properly

Latest drivers? Possibly card specific settings within your drivers?
I don't have this problem on my G-Force 4 or ATI 9800. |

I would hardly consider this a big problem... I've not had the sun shining through things, if you're talking about the horozontal lines that come from suns then that's an optical effect due to cameras and should stay.
If you want to talk about graphical bugs lets talk about Minmatar sentry guns not being all there or the outboard engines on mammoths being covered up with black planes...
The fact is that the graphics in EVE are superb and aside from a few small and ultimately irrelevant glitches (from a game that is still in development don't forget!) the graphics are still comparable to recently released games, which is a testament to the dev team.

Radeon 9700 pro here with latest drivers, sometimes sun occlusion works, sometimes not. Anyway, it's not a major issue (at least for me).

The GeForce 4 MX is not a GeForce 4--it is a GeForce 2 MX with better memory. It does NOT support the Vertex and Pixel shaders required to do the occlusion.
