It would save god knows how many petitions, and lost hours of gameplay. There are other systems around Jita that don't add jumps to the route most of the time, but they do avoid the wicked timesink and lag.
And really, "prefer safer" includes avoinding Jita, imho :p

Auto-pilot, avoid (XX system, YY Constellation, systems with more than ZZ players, etc)

Again, this is a good idea, but it's way too limited to a narrow point of view.
In 0.0 there are combat zones that may be useful to avoid, and not just for lag purposes. Why not add a list to the autopilot settings area where you can add any number of systems, constellations, or even whole regions to avoid? Since everything is done client-side for autopilot I see no extra load put on by this. (Since the autopilot can sometimes take ages with a long route.)

I generally don't use auto-pilot because it's too slow.
EVE 2D maps by Ombey
Grab a copy of the EVE 2D maps by Ombey and print out the regions you're working in and plan your routes manually.
I guess the other thing is that I just don't operate near Jita.
btw, I refer to it as Microsoft Jita. (Because it just crashes for no reason at all)
