Hello EvE community. I am a day away from being ready to get my first cruiser, im going for a Maller, mainly based on the advice of my corp members and also from reading these forums, most people seem to say that the Maller is the best of the four Ammar cruisers.
Im a soldier class, and I hope to tank.
I have yet to be able to use tech II items, I will be using medium energy turrets.
Would anyone have a good Tech I setup for doing lvl I and lvl II security and internal security missions.
Also I have read some people think lasers are not good at all and I should train to use AutoCannons? Is this true?
Thankyou very much to anyone who replys to me
Regards Isaac

Well, people suggest training projectile weapons because there are certain cap limitations on Amarr ships that they're trying to get around. Also, projectiles have variable damage type.
I think when people tell you to train projectiles (autocannons and artillery), they're telling you this in addition to lasers. Let me be the first to point out that you have a hard road ahead (as the Amarr cruiser line is ... somewhat sub par).
If you're strictly into missioning, you might look into Caldari, but IMO, stick with Amarr. The devs have promised a boost, and last time they boosted Amarr they gave them the Sacrilege (the single most overpowered HAC in the game).
It's also worth nothing that each race has "something it's good at". Amarr is not good at cruiser warfare, but "excels" at battleship warfare. Of course, people will complain about the lacking damage types for PVE and omnitanking (using EANMs, Invulns, and ANPs) in PVP - but the world isn't all bleak.
I promise there's a certain amount of political lobbying and misdirection in all the Amarr whining - but there's a certain kernel of truth that should not be ignored.
So for my advice: Maller with autocannons - but do not neglect your laser training. The next step up will be the Harbinger, which needs lasers.

Edit: As i have no maller fits i could only comment on your laser question.

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 04/01/2008 18:25:25 To be quite honest, instead of training for Cruiser IV and autocannons I would stop at Cruiser III and then go straight to Battlecruisers. The Harbinger is a fantastic ship with heavy damage, lots of slots to tank with and oodles of cap, and it looks cool too. It'll rip apart all level 2 and almost all level 3 missions with ease. The only downside is the 40m price tag, but once you have one you won't be looking back.
