Edited by: Tapdancer on 04/01/2008 17:07:10 Currently running two account doing missions (lvl3/4).
Thought it would be a good idea to have my second account trainup Covet Ops rather than the usual frigate - cruiser.
Thought the Stealth Bomber would be a great supplermentary DPS especially for frigate targets.
Also thought covert ops would be a quick way to become useful in corp pvp and be handy for running smaller gate camps.
Read a few posts on covert ops (many of them quite old) and it seems like that the covert ops are not very highly regarded.
Has this been a waste of time ?

If you enjoy the role as scout or want to become effective at exploration, then it was not a waste of time.
Do what you want to do!
Don't focus on what other want to do, nor what others want you to do.

Well, if it's just for missions, I don't see any glaring weakness in the strategy off the top of my head. You have to, however, make absolutely certain that nothing attacks your SB or you WILL lose it, instantly. I guess some would say that that, in effect, is a glaring weakness.

Edited by: Joe Lappo on 04/01/2008 17:16:37 No, you haven't wasted your time. You are correct that a Stealth Bomber is great for supplementary DPS, although not necessarily for frigate targets. They work best with Cruise Missile launchers against larger targets.
Stealth Bombers work best from a long distance(over 70km). They don't work so well solo PvP, since most ships will be able to get away before the cruise missiles even reach them. With a team, though, they are a great asset.

The issue is not one of what people want me to do. If covert ops are useful in scouting great, then it is not a waste of time.
When you mention exploring do you mean moving into low security / contested sector areas (effectively deep scouting)?

I was refering to NPC exploration.
As for hunting players, there is no better ship than a Covert Ops for breaking safe spots.

A good covops pilot is worth thier wieght in gold:
-Finding exploration sites. -Scouting for corp ops. -Busting safes -Busting missions -Small valuable transport
However...a good covops needs quick probe times (<30 seconds) and has to know how to scout. Fly a frig/inty and learn to scout properly first. "Probe and Pray" is rubbish. Be patient...it takes a while to get there. IF you are good and enjoy doing it you will have your pick of virtually every corp in game.
Stealth Bombers have uses...but not worth specializing in. They sound cooler than they actually are .

While having said that, my old main character (who is now demoted to alt status) was a fulltime covert ops pilot, and while a fun and a fullfilling job you end up doing covops stuff ALL the time, which isn't exactly good for your epeen when you start looking at killboards. Not that killboards actually matter but still :P
