I've upgraded from a trail account about a week ago yet when I go to My Characters on the site I still see a ! for all of my characters portraits. When is it going to update? |

nothing you can do, just wait. CCP have released a statement saying they will get round to sorting it some time next year.

Originally by: "Asestorian" The avatar on the forums will be rendered at some point, but there is nothing you can do to speed up the process. It's just a case of waiting and waiting. It may render within a day, or it may render in another month, no one knows, and nor do they know why...

well i didn't even notice it was effecting the forums as well. it was mostly when i was trying to do a portrait swap. i'm a little hesitant to swap a ! for a !... but i guess if it didn't work i'd notice shortly in the game.

Edited by: Asestorian on 04/01/2008 23:39:49 Oh, it's happening ingame as well? That's interesting, I've never heard of that happening before
Edit: Oh wait, actually I think I misunderstood that. I'm now actually thinking (probably correctly) that the portraits work fine ingame but on the website as a whole the portrait doesn't appear. The portraits on the website for the portrait swap are the same ones as used on the forums so the same thing still applies.

Yes it should do. It's just that on the website it hasn't rendered yet, but if you can see them both ingame just fine, then it's all perfectly ok. You may need to wait till a downtime after you made the transfer and clear your cache before it shows up though.

Yes it's possible they do, but it isn't always required.

well my new portrait appeared ingame. had to reset my cache for it. but of course all my friends see my old one still. is there a set amount of time that the cache clears or do i really have to make them clear theirs too? if everyone has to clear their cache too that's the worst $10 i've ever spent and there should be a warning about that before you do it. because all it says right now is: "Please note that you might have to delete the "Portrait" folder in your cache directory to see the new portrait." it doesn't say anywhere others have to clear my portrait too.

Well, to be quite honest, if you have to do that then logically why wouldn't everyone else?

Edited by: Matterick Boon on 09/01/2008 00:54:18 because it tells me i might have to delete my portrait folder, not empty the cache. it tells me the exact location on my drive where i might need to do it (Please note that you might have to delete the "Portrait" folder in your cache directory to see the new portrait. The portraits are cached in the folder %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\cache\Pictures\portraits...). If it's telling me I might have to delete specific files on my drive it sounds more like a local thing rather everyone. If it's telling me i might have to delete the files that sounds like even if it is cached it gets updated or purged at some point. And to be honest i figured if you were being charged to change it you wouldn't be the only person viewing the change. I could have just found the cached file and photoshopped it or replaced it with another rather blowing $10.

Mine did the same thing. I hear it's pretty normal though. Cover your six.... |
