I was reading the Salvage Guide from doubleored at the Battleclinic and I got to thinking about the opening scene from Aliens where the salvage ship finds Ripley. As big as EVE is there seems to be more than enough room for a PVE Alien type that exists for no other reason than self preservation and extreme violence. It just seems that right now I know everything there is to know about the competition and what to expect if I let my guard down. But it's all human stuff...what about the inhuman? What about when your exploring in the frontier and find something totally unexpected, totally alien. An easter egg that may lead to riches beyond imagination or a quick and deadly face hug. I'm just hoping that EVE has that bump in the night.

Edited by: Asestorian on 04/01/2008 23:54:11 The Jovians are about as alien as EVE gets, and to be quite honest I hope it stays that way. Not every sci-fi game needs to have aliens.
Edit: There's always the rouge drones as well, they are kind of alien.

Edited by: Biolaja Tista on 05/01/2008 00:04:38 There are no aliens in New Eden. None that have yet been discovered, anyway.
All the major races in EVE are fundamentally of human origin, if not still members of the genus Homo.
Rogues drones were originally of human make. But the AI went insane and became like an "eusocial insect."

Personally, I think that the next 'logical' step is to reopen the EVE Gate and reunite those left behind on Earth with those that have made their way alone in New Eden. Technically, if they had no mishaps or wars to knock them back a millenium, like we did, the people from earth would have highly advanced technology...Tech Level 3 or 4 perhaps. So...that might be the next logical thing to happen.

There are aliens in eve, but they are non sapient(Fedo, Hanging long limb). No semi-humanoid aliens with stupid faces for eve, thats reserved for star trek.

My personal hunch on the Eve Gate is that it gives CCP a nice flexable way to increase the Galaxy size, add some more "races", etc, if they want to.
And they would not need open the whole old Galaxy at once. It could be done in stages.
But no rush, plenty of good player based content here.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Agreed. Last thing I'd want to see is EVE turn into an Aliens vs Predator FPS. I would just like to see an unknown element introduced, especially if you venture out into the frontier. Maybe a rare, and I mean very rare, alien hulk, drifting in the dark, whatever, just something to let you know you're not in Kansas anymore. Those extremely rare encounters could be shown with cut-scenes and they don't always have to be bad, in fact they could be very good. Artifacts that spawn new techs, for example.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Why the hell would we want cut-scenes. Nothing like a good block of video where you can't control the game to get you blown up. --

One thing that I am sure of is this. The game would probably follow a logical order something like this...in my opinion that is:
1) Galactic war. All systems become 0.0 as a huge galactic war errupts and all the races fight each other. Concord is wiped out and the galaxy threatens to become a lawless waste.
2) While all this is happening, the EVE Gate bursts back into life and highly technologically advanced ships stream into New Eden. The Terrans demand that the other races fall back into line under the rule of the Terran Empire...which is in turn still ruled over by the mega corporations of old.
3) Huge war where all 4 and maybe even the Jovians fight for their independance. A large area of space is lost however before a peace treaty is signed, ending the conflict. Slowly, things return to normal and there is a 5th playable race.
4) Attacks from an unknown source are plauging the 0.0 sectors, rimward of the core of New Eden. Player Corporations are hit hard, and forced to withdraw from the rim territories closer to Empire Space.
5) Slowly player corps are pushed out of Nul Sec and into Empire under relentless attack from this unknown source. Tensions rise, people blame the Terrans and another war errupts. Casualties are huge and once again New Eden becomes a war zone.
6) Finally, as New Eden falls in on itself, the aliens attack, taking advantage of the infighting to make huge gains into empire space.
Thats just something I think could happen, not saying it is, just saying this is my opinion.

If we look at the current track record, what is probably going to happen is that the story will stay virtually stagnant indefinately. There will be some sparing and meaningless encounters with actors in apocolypses who talk like British lords and make weak protests of revenge when you kill and loot them. The jove will never be developed, despite the fertile narrative they inhabit. There will be yet more big promises of storyline events that will remain half finished.
