My game locks up some times while in space and I have to reboot my computer. When it locks up the music turns into a highpitch wail. Anyone else have this problem or problems with win 2000. Dell 1.1. Ghz Windows 2000 Pr0 MX5200 128mb 384 Audigy Gamer

Leland:
I use win2k and have no issues...i would look at your sound drivers and get them upgraded if need be......audigy is tempermental...
Win2k is extremely stable...make sure it is all patched to windows...
also make sure you have directx 9.0b installed as that clears up alot of sound issues...
you can read my thread on keeping EvE stable here
FLAZE
hope you get it worked out!

Everything is upgraded to the max latest direct x. I will say this I upgraded from wondows ME and did this from format of the hardrive and reinstalled all my software. I am also connecting with a cable model using a USB ethennet connection I wonder if thats the problem. Under windows ME I had not problems connecting only disconnectin would cause my computer to funny things when I shut down. ALthough windows me gave me lots of problems with games.

well...glad you got rid of win ME and sounds like you did it right by installing new instead if upgrading.....
maybe try older version of your sound drivers...
also run logserver.exe and see if eve log server catchs exactly whats causing the crash...it helps alot to pin down exact cause of issues....

Flaze couldn't be more correct, many times you can tell what causes EVE to lock-up when using the log server. However, because of your specific symptoms, I would venture a bet that there is some compatibility with sound drivers. Can you identify exactly WHEN it crashes? Is it consistantly when performing the same act?

Edited by: Scorpyn on 20/03/2004 08:09:32 Info on how to use the log server can be found here.
I'm also one of many running Win2k without problems...
You could try disabling the sound completely to see if that helps (#6 here).

Edited by: Flaze on 20/03/2004 08:19:23 heres part of something i wrote a bit ago...
You can disable your sound in the "prefs.ini" to quickly see if you have issues with "sound or sound drivers" and see if the CTD's stop. This is done buy opening the "prefs.ini" file in notepad which is located in your EvE Cache directory. Change the line of "audio=1" to "audio=0" and then save the file. this will disable sound in EvE.
see if its the sound or not...

I had same problem with lockups or BSOD. I'm using win xp, but I think our common problem is the Creative Audigy sound card. I adjusted the hardware acceleration of sound card down to basic. EVE then complaints about not finding any hardware sound channels, but would use software. I just clicked ok on the message, also checked the box 'never show this message again'. After that every thing works OK. no more crash. and the sound is ok too
To turn down hardware acceleration, open control panel and sound and audio devices. click on advanced, then the performance tab. There should be a track bar where you can adjust hardware acceleration. This is for win xp, but I think it's almost same on win 2000.
Hope this helps
