Suppose, I know scan resolution of a targeting ship (with all possible skills, mods, ship bonuses, etc) and signature radius of a targetted one (again after anything affecting it). Is there a formula to calculate actual locking time? |

The excel formated formula is:
=(10000/D4)/(ASINH(D5))
Where D4 is Scan Resolution Where D5 is Target Signature Radius.
Hope that helps.

Curious, what is ASINH? |

A quick check on Google says:
ASINH is the inverse hyperbolic sine of x; that is the value whose hyperbolic sine is x.
No it still doesn't make any sense to me either, but at least I know how to plug it into a calculator now.

IIRC, there's a max locking time of 90 seconds or 3 minutes as well... don't remember which.

Thx for the formula. I tested it with several setups of different ships (using EFT) and it seems to be giving out reasonable answers.
P.S. For those who wonders what's ASINH: it's an Excel built-in formula |

It is much more than that.

You don't need to go deep into math. As I said, Excel has ASINH as a built-in formula. |

Hyperbolic functions are the work of the devil. Everytime I have to use one, I die a little inside. My only consolation is that they arent as bad as the erf fuction.
As for the topic at hand, isn't there a second delay after the locking timer ticks down? Or maybe that's just lag...

Edited by: Tiberius Wolff on 06/01/2008 05:15:27 So, if I use this formula and plug in my scan resolution (1218.3mm) and the targets signature radius (25m) I get a result of 0.2097934.
So, is that 2 seconds to lock? ---
