I'm going to say this again because people seemed to have missed it:
We're players who volunteer our time to write in-game news based on events that happen in the world of EVE. Although we're overseen by CCP and work within their framework, we're not CCP employees and are not paid to do this. Our objective is to bring news to players, we're not involved in advertising the game.
The article that was produced during the conflict was based on information that was available to us at the time, that was in the public domain. All of what was written before the battle finished could be found in the forums. Indeed, it had been in the public domain for a full 40 minutes before the original version of the story was published. We did not visit the battlefield until after the main fighting had finished. We interviewed both sides when we did eventually visit and produced the final article that you can now see.
You do not seem to understand. Not everyone reads the forums. By broadcasting a strategic location that is experiencing lag on the in-game news page while the battle is still going on you are contributing to an already bad situation. But if you don't want to admit that your actions might have negatively affected the game play experience of the people who were at the location before you announced it and people rushed there because of the news announcement. Fine. That's your choice.
I would suggest that you or your superiors at CCP review your current policy regarding these kind of laggy events and how you broadcast them. The servers have a limit. Please keep that in mind.
To reiterate. More people read the in-game news than the forums. More people is bad for laggy systems. Thank you for trying to improve our experience in the future.
Quoting for emphasis.
The intention is admirable, but as has been pointed out more people log in than read the forums, and of those that read forums another chunk go a fair while without reading em. When you mention the system name and an outline of a fight and stick it on the char selection screen, while the fight is ongoing, you're disseminating strategic intel to all and sundry. Not to mention drawing a massive X on the map and inviting anyone with the ability to log in. Oh and potentially increasing lag, cheers, much appreciated. Who needs a spy network, joint intel channels, ded mails, map statistics or even caod ( ) when we have ISD doing it all for us and plastering it on the biggest billboard in eve.
Yes I'm being a little melodramatic, and it didn't seem to affect matters much in 49- from the sounds of it(probably largely due to a combination of lag and node crash), but it's the principle that matters.
By all means keep the reports coming, just try not to do things like give out system names or other specifics while something is ongoing.
Or better yet, post the damn report when it's over.

[edit: incidentally, no matter how harmless you might your original article posted during the fight was; for the intel conveyed by just skimming it, it might as well have just said "ZOMG titan scrammed 49- gogogo!".]
