It was well announced a few weeks back and is due to the total collapse of the dollar in relation to other currencies. If you have a major problem with it I suggest you have a chat with Mr Bush about his ''not supporting a weak dollar policy''.
Can't say I blame the guys at CCP one bit. Maybe they should start billing in sterling - our currency seems to be the most stable these days.

There is a perfectly good reason why Bush doesnt want to help the US dollar. If you look at the situation, (although this is against international law) the US is purposely devaluing its own currency, and the reason is to keep spending in the US. If the dollar is weak against other currencies, then people are less likely to buy from abroad, imports go down, exports go up. Its like adding illegal tariffs, except instead of taxing imports, you make it so that people wanting to import goods dont want to buy them, or people wanting to export goods to the US wont have a market to sell.
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with |

My chicken and mayo sandwich at lunchtime wasn't as nice as it usually is.
I blame Bush.

Yeah ... picking hair from your teeth midway through a perfectly good sandwich is a terrible experience. But don't blame the bush ... it's all part of being a man.

Edited by: ElCoCo on 19/03/2004 21:20:08 well...since 1 euro is about 1.22 USD, shouldn't the euro prices be lower as a figure than the usd ones?
Is CCP's bank giving them bad exchange rates when converting euro to usd?

um, correct me if im wrong, but wasnt it due to the E.U. taxing electronic goods, and the sale of items over the internet, thats why there have been price hikes in quite a few shops/games etc based in the E.U.

Correct. It was explained in the newsletter that CCP has to abide by the EU Directive (July 2003, i think?) that requires a Value Added Tax on goods/services sold to EU nations. These taxes vary by nation, but range from 15-25%. The 22-25% higher exchange rate of the Euro v. USD is almost negated by the VAT charged... which is why the prices look similar despite varying strength/weakness of the currencies involved. |
