I'd suggest if you are first starting out, look at Cruisers more than the bigger ships. Rupture is often overlooked, and it is one very mean ship. I've seen Ruppies do unspeakable things to people that should have outclassed it. Plus, it's cheap, and doesn't need as many support skills as a Battleship does to be a very viable contender in PvP. The Stabber isn't too bad either, but takes a different style of piloting to make it work. I've seen corp mates get a few solo kills in a Stabber, and the fact that it's faster, means you can force PvP on someone more often. You might not be able to tear up BC's as much as a Rupture can, but anything Cruiser sized and below you should have a good chance at taking out. The Stabber is pretty good in a fleet as well, it's quick, nimble, and maneuverable so it can navigate around a battlefield a bit easier, but the Rupture can fit with Arty and sit back in the mid range area and focus on popping smaller ships and drones, definately helping the fleet.
The Hurricane is a very nice ship as well, but it's basically just a slightly bigger Rupture, and a little slower as well. It packs probabally the biggest punch in the gut damage wise vs all of the other BC's, and if it catches something small enough, will be sending them home in a Pod. Problems arise though, with the fact that it's bigger than a Cruiser and easier to hit. It's also slower. It does have more range than a Myrmidon, which is the only other BC I see as a good choice in PvP. It does lack a solid tank though, so be careful with that.
As far as getting into a BS... IMO They suck at most everything other than killing BC's and BS's. They take a LOT more skill points to be as effective also. Usually when people talk about something being effective, they aren't talking about using T1 guns and tank.
If you want to put a bit more SP in, I'd go for a Recon or a HAC, Minnies have some pretty good choices in that catergory, and can hold their own against any other ships their size, or even a little bigger.
I'd suggest try things out with a Rupture. More people will be willing to engage a Cruiser than they will a Battleship or a Battlecruiser even. Also, if your age is pretty young, you'll die pretty often while in a bigger ship. www.the-bastards.com |
