Well, Im not even close to being there, but if some could please shed some light
1)Are they even worth it? ISK wise lotsa bounties etc?
2)I know they are only low sec, so how do you avoid eventually being captured by pvpers?
Well I think its just 2 questions.

to be 100% honest.
get in your ship and set autopilot to tpar in period basis and go afk and you have the same chance of making isk as in a level 5.

You seem to be biased on this subject as how many level 5's have you run? I have run many and its what i do best in my spare time. So why would you say its not profitable it just depends on how you run them....
If you run them efficiently they are more fun and also can be depending on the mission more profitable than lvl 4's. Some level 4's are more profitable than level 5's and some level 3's are more profitable than level 3's so unless you have run all the level 5's and have them all listed you can determine which ones to avoid and which ones to do religiously.
See a pattern forming... Run level 5's submit the data or horde it for yourself so you have ur own little list then work out which ones are better to run etc,
Bounce between level 4's and 5's and pick the missions you want to do and you get the best of both worlds...
