EA really are terrible and the guy is right, they are destroying creativity and more importantly originality in the games they produce. I still shed a tear for Westwood, remember the original C&C

Edited by: Deadflip2 on 20/03/2004 11:01:53 EA is the most pefetic game producer on earth: (i rarely buy a game from them), its for 2 resons.
a) instead of improving stuff on the same lvl as the past wich was prefered by a lotta players, they try to IMROVE a past game (take goldeneye) and have yet to do it properly (yes people i bought ALL of them in a hope that itdd be good, but the newest multiplayer is no tactic at all, the previous one was even better, and still i play goldeneye with more pleasure after so many years)
b) the take over all good companys (take WESTWOOD, RA1 and CnC and Tib Sun (already a decline, sicne EA started interfearing here..) RA2 was crap becouse they tried to improve with new sorts of gameplay not getting near westwoods, CnC generals was crap becouse no matter how hard i tried i was afread to play it against better players due to the RANKING, take CnC renegade, now that was a pretty descent game, allthough westwood still had some power back then, nevertheless i coulda been better, like it used to.
c) EA is typical american, instead of making one game real GOOD they make so many games (5 where for example blizzard / quality nintendo producers make 1) making 250$ instead of just 50$ (here come the american its all about the money).
d) look more closely they abbandoned a lotta games in the sence of patches just becouse, once u buy a game that doesnt need monhtly, why would they care? they already got ur 50$ or so. Ultima has more player = more money. EnB (face it) never had enough.
e) Microsoft has improved this making stuff like Movie Maker 2 and free patches etc, EA has yet to.
f) I'm gonna try never to buy an EA game again (though i didnt play EnB (did do beta..) you guys have to admit this is pefetic). I suggest u all do the same
g) see f)
h) see f)
i) just came up with another one, the SIMS, they got like what 9 of ehm now, each wich an improvement so small it could just as wel be downloaded. thats 450$ in the bag for fans... actually i did the same buying all those bond games , they are all equally as BADASS! --- "this song reminds me of the girl i met on a schooltrip, she was really nice, and she really liked me. EA also crushed Multi-Player Battletech on us when it had a great playerbase in open Beta. that was just before E&B opened.Nice to see all the E&B'ers coming out this way, though. I gave up on that game during EVE Beta, and haven't regretted it yet.
Just remember, the penalties are higher here than it was in cartoon-space. It definitely keeps you on your toes.

They released the game unfinished. Didn't say it on the box, so you didn't know till you installed it. By then it had been open and was to late to return it.
The error message promised they would patch in the missing half of the game... a patch that never came.

Yeah, you're spot on, Bullfrog released some of the most influential games I've ever played and most likely ever will play. Theme park rocked my world for years.

Earth and Beyond would have been the best MMORPG ever created. Better than EVE. But EA has a simple strategy--buy out their competitors... but don't use their games! Just dissolve the whole company, simply to get rid of competition.
And Earth and Beyond, because of lack of funding, had less content released in its entire time out than it should have had in the first 3 months.
**** you, EA.

thinkign about it ur right, due to ccps efforts lately, and them becommign less indipendent they managed to grow the playerbase back up from a falldown from 5500 to 4500 (looking at sudnay evening) back to a 7500 - soon 8000 --- "this song reminds me of the girl i met on a schooltrip, she was really nice, and she really liked me. And it's coming from a moderator of theirs....
Always sad to see a game die because of corporate policy and so on though...
That's why EVE rules doesn't it??!?!?! We're free from the likes of EA and Activision.

The only thing I liked about EnB was being able to get out of your ship and walk around.. With player portrates this would be rather difficult to implament in the future. Cause if CCP couldn't get my blue hair right I would sue.

dude, Syndicate was the ****nit. Syndicate wars even better.
I was so blown away by the graphics way back then, and the gameplay was challenging and interesting. When people say 'games used to be much better back in the day' they are talking about games like that, and possibly bomberman (best multiplayer game ever).
I believe it is kicking around on abandonware atm. But you will need a bit of software to slow down your processor, as it was CPU-cycle timed, rather than realtime clock-timed. and on a P4, each level would be over before it started :)
Also, looking at reviews and reports of other MMO's, I have to say I'm glad that I never tried the others.
Eve is not without it's problems, not by a long way, but the devs are doing the best they can, and I appreciate it. .

As far as I know the portrait information is actually stored with the parameters used for creating it in their database (and not a bitmap snapshot of your creation). I could be wrong but this is a hunch I have had since they messed something up in beta and suddenly lots of people had a 5 day beard on their portraits...
When you create the avatar you do it in 3d so they do have the information needed (I have a suspicion though that everyone would look very similar seen from the back unless they make certain facial parameters mean tall/short, thin/fat such as the fat cheeks a handful of players have).

E&B was released 2001? I was following EVE that time when I heard about that game, never gave it a try though, the graphics just wasn't close to EVE and it effected me like playing an incomplete version of me (without any background content check, just my initial thought).
Anyway, has it really been so long, man time flies and still hanging here.

EnB had those 1st/3rd person bubble*****pit views which were pretty cool.. and when you flew around you would actually fly "around" the planets not through them. The planets also looked way cooler than EVE planets and extremely close range. I see no reason why EVE can't do the same things. Now that EVE has officialy made it I hope the CCP team can increase in size as well and really start coding some sweet stuff into this game. ------------------

From what I can see, that thread was all about E&B, while this one is about Eve being promoted to EnB'ers. With alot of EA bashing as well. I'm sure CCP, like every other developer, enjoys EA stomping every once and a while.
