So is it even worth it to try to armor tank with a Raven?

For PVP, yes... for PVE, no.
It's much less so now since most useful offensive ewar has been nerfed into oblivion.

If you had the grid a 1600mm plate + DCII would provide a decent extra-layer buffer tank if your doing something schfancy with your midslots. If your starting to put reps in the lows, your going overboard; go back to shield tanking.

It was common to armour-tank Ravens when torps did rubbish damage and a rack of RSD was stupidly powerful. Now, the situation is reversed, so shield-tanking and damage mods is favoured.

It's only worth it when you need your mids for something. Very specialized, generally speaking you shouldn't do it unless you know what you're doing.

Not to mention it's rather difficult to fit a large rep, propulsion mod, and six siege launchers.

The only real reason a Raven is shield tanked most of the time is because it has more mid slots to contribute to the deal. It doesn't get a shield resist bonus or anything like that.
Of course, for PvP there is a decent argument to be made, but you have to figure that the raven simply isn't going to fit a GOOD armor tank, just an adequate one. If you're using torps then MAYBE you can put out enough damage you won't need a repper but I'd really worry about just buffering against some of the ganker ships if you couldn't keep your slight range advantage for long enough.

i armor tank em in sansha space only for ratting, can keep dual reps and a few hardeners ruining permanently, surprisingly i have better armor tanking skills then i do shield
