I'm away on holiday with my girfriend staying with her father and sister. Yesterday my girlfriend went out for the day to see her friends, i got bored so i decided to downloaded the expanded version of eve-online, to her sister's comp, and before they get back i'll unistall it, to save me grief as, i dont wanna hear you cant stay away from that game for 3 weeks. Anyhow when i downloaded the client i saved it to my documents on her computer, as the operating system is polish and i know where my documents is, this would save me precious seconds if she come back early so i could uninstall, however this was'nt needed. I logged on for a look and a spot of training and looked at the shiney new graphics as my comp back home cant handle it, then uninstaled eve from her computer and thought nothing else of it for the evening. Untill this morning when i got a bellowing shout of my name "WHAT WAS YOU DOING ON THE INTERNET YESTERDAY?" to which i replied sheepishly "the same what i have done for the last few days dear"........ "well all my pictures have gone off the computer!" this is when i got a aching pain in my gut and thought well the only thing i did was uninstall eve. I'm not 100% sure this is my fault however i was the last to use the computer and i'm living with the guilt of all her photo's of the last few years have gone... even the ones of her mother who passed away 4 years ago... Questions 1 - I'm not too clued up with computer's did i do something wrong ? 2 - I dont suppose i can get these files back if it is my fault (which i'm be really fear it is) can i?

Anyway, uninstalling EVE 'should not' have any effect on anything else. (Note I said 'should not', after the boot.ini incident you just never know anymore)
PS. Check the Recycle bin folder. PPS. She did have BACKUPS didn't she?

First off....BUUURRN!
It's only going to go downhill buddy. See if you can reset the pc to it's last known configuration a month back. Hopefully that will save your relationship.
And install Eve on a portable USB chip that you keep on your keychain.

1) stop every activity that writes **** to your harddisk (haha, like that is possible) 2) google for "undelete" 3) look for free proggy 4) ignore rule one, install it. 5) look for recently deleted picture files 6) and undelete them.
chances are, tho, it isnt your fault. if youre telling the truth, i cant possibly imagine how you shouldve managed to kill her pictures.
id bet on: she just cant find them, because subconsciously she just wants to ***** around. she accidentially deleted them. you accidentially deleted them. (in both cases they are just in the recycle bin, at least if youre all as tech savvy as it sounds like)
and to bring this long post to an end: DONT EVER EVER EVER INSTALL SOMETHING ON A COMPUTER WITHOUT THE OWNER KNOWING.
thats wrong.

This. People who don't know the basics of operating a computer often say stuff like 'it got deleted' or 'I have a virus'. It's rarely true.
Do a search for pictures using search (duhh). This will tell you where the majority of them are located. If they really have been deleted just use a recovery program as suggested. _

Ok try this: press windows key (that's the one with the flag on between control and alt) and F at the same time.
Type this in the box titled Search for files or folders named: "*.jpg" (without the quotes) then try it again with "*.jpeg" if you find nothing.
Leave containing text blank, and keep Look in: at Local Hard Drives

It can do. If it does, they will most likely not be located in the original folder, find them using the above method.

Try to copy and paste those 70 photos that wont go back. Instead of moving them. Maybe you'll get a result then? -- Banned since 2005, back by popular demand! They said it wouldn't happen!! |

If she's not good with computers it's surprising she could have found that you were on the intrenet on another day.
If there were around 90 pictures and you found 20 i another location, how did they come there ? Who did it ? If you know that, check where the rest is and tell her it wasn't you.
If they were deleted and they're not in the trash bin... they were most likely thrown away on purpose.
If you say that you think they're not in te boot.ini, you aren't that good with computers either and all above points are moot
Anyhow, all reasonable suggestions were made. It's a huge mistake not to have a backup. Does system restore really restore documents ? I really doubt that. -----------------------------------------------

I think by setting the EVE folder as 'My Documents' it thought that was in fact the EVE folder, thus on uninstall um... it was removed

I concur with the above, putting an install directory to anything already existing is asking for anything existing in that directory to be deleted upon program uninstall. It doesn't care what's in there, it just has to delete that directory..... and all your prn.
