Hi, As you may have noticed, I'm producing a game based on EVE ships and races (see my signature for more details). Currently I'm designing ships for all of the races, based on these three categories: 1. Primary Weapon 2. Secondary Weapon 3. Electronic Warfare/Other
With the Caldari and Gallente, this is relatively easy: Caldari: Missiles, Railguns, Jammers Gallente: Blasters, Drones, Dampeners
But when I try to apply this formula to the Minmatar and Amarr, things get a bit more difficult. My overall design for the game limits each race to three distinct ships per class (3 frigates, 3 cruisers, 3 battleships, etc), and I'm having a hard time trying to determine how this should work with the Amarr and Minmatar. I originally came up with something entirely different for the Minmatar: 1. Damage (primary) 2. Tanking (secondary) 3. Speed (tertiary)
But I'd prefer to avoid this as it isn't consistent with my normal setup.
Amarr I'm even less sure about, since I have almost no experience flying their ships and I feel the general discussion forums are not the best place to determine their appropriate roles/strengths/weaknesses.

Hmmmm.
Minmatar: Projectiles, split-weapon-system-abomination or nanoship if you don't care about matching the other races, TP or web?
Amarr: Lasers, Missiles, TD or nos?

Personally I think Gallente would be more like: Drones, Hybrids, Damps
For Minmatar maybe: Autocannons, Artillery, Webs Amarr: Lasers, Pulse, Nos?
I actually like your Damage-Tanking-Speed idea better tbh though, maybe a little editing, and add in an ewar... say: Amarr: Armor, Beams, Speed, nos Minmatar: Speed, Projecticiles, Shield, web Gallente: Armor, Speed, Hybrids, damp Caldari: Missiles, Sheild, Speed, ecm
Something rough like that, and could put different weights on certain things like Amarr armor being stronger than Gallente while Minmatar move faster than all the races...
Im bored so just some ideas :P

I'm trying to figure out how to best mesh Artillery, Autocannons, Speed, and Target Painters. On one hand:
Speed: Artillery (range) and target painters (make up for low damage) Damage: Autocannons (high DPS) Tanking: Autocannons? Artillery? Split-weapon systems? Hrm.
Going by Minmatar Battleships:
Tempest: Firepower (I usually hear of artillery on this ship) Maelstrom: Tanking (Artillery? Seems too slow for autocannons) Typhoon: Speed, (Autocannons + Missiles)

With the Khanid stuff I'd guess...
Lasers - Missiles - NOS.
Minnie would be...
Projectiles - Speed - ??? (Webs, Target Painters, etc. etc.?)

Yep, this is already done. 
For Speed you'll probably go with Autocannos while Damage would be for Arty (tracking speed on arty < AC's :P) For tanking I'd say AC's.

Not really. I'm always fitted for gankage. Speed is for wimps.
Also, Maelstrom is a ganker. It can tank and gank at the same time pretty well.

Look at the Hyena and it's webbing bonus for reasoning webbing as the 3rd choice.

projectiles missiles target painting
and amarr
lasers missiles trackin disruptors
but really its closer to minmatar projectiles missiles/drones webbers
and amarr
lasers missiles Nosferatu/neutralizer

For example: Caldari Pri Weapon: Missles Secondary Weapon: Hybrids EW: ECM Race Role: EW
Amarr Pri: Lasers Secondary: Missles/Drones (tbh) EW: NOS/TD Race Role: Tanking
Mimatar Pri: Projectiles Secondary: Missles EW: Webs/TP Race Role: Speed
Gallente Primary: Drones Secondary: Hybrids EW: Dampeners Race Role: Drones
Race Role being things that are usually intrinic of the ship.
Amarr have more armor, Gallente has bigger bays, Minies have more speed, Caldari are good at EW. I think those are the main roles, but even roles can be subcategorized. Into something like race benefits, and race penalities...depends how deep you want to go.

One of the best assets minmatar has is also its drawbacks. We can do EVERYTHING, which means we must train (nearly) every skill. You can't lump us into 3 categories, but you COULD lump some of our ships into 3 categories by themselves. _______________________________________________ Minmatar will always go faster than you, get over it. |

Amarr maybe: Armor king, cap master, turret damage? I dunno :P
I dunno just about every race needs to train up the same things Minmatar does. Also Minmatar ships have paths where you don't need to train split tanking, so all the races are kind of in the same boat.
For a newbie Amarr are probably the biggest investment skill wise to get off the ground.
As far as maximizing race potential, just about all the races need everything at some point. With Amarr you need guns, missles, armor tanking, shield tanking, and drones as well. Same with Caldari&Gallente for ships like the Scorpion&Myrm.

but i like rialtors idea up above the best

Amarr might have a tiny bit more armor hp, but the repair bonus on some other races ship beat that by a long shot, amarr isn't the best armor tank.

resist bonus is better than the rep ammount bonus. any day of the week
