I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this thread, but I feel it would be answered a little better here than in the ships discussion thread.
I have a second account that is currently training up for a Hulk. 100% of the training has gone into mining (except for drones for defense which I see as a mandatory) and I'll soon be able to fly a Hulk.
Currently in a Retriever, I am not getting anywhere near the isk/hour I would be getting with a Hulk, and not able to adequately sustain the account. I'm figuring using a 90 day GTC to keep the account active, and using 425mil as the purchase price, split evenly between the 90 days, resulting in 4.75mil isk a day to keep the account active.
I know that the market shifts a little here and there, and depending on the region, etc etc. What I am curious about, is how many hours it will take to break even every day. I'd like to look at these areas: High Sec Low Sec 0.0
as 0.0 will give me the most isk/hour I'm curious if Low Sec or even High Sec will give me an adequate isk/hour pull to bring me even after 1 hour of work. I've run some numbers myself on theory, but I know all too often that theory numbers don't usually work out the same as reality numbers do.
Is there anyone out there that has some valid experience in this, or is able to quote some hard numbers (averages would work great)?
My apologies yet again for requesting info that could be found myself in game. I am at work, and trying to kill time :p www.the-bastards.com |

A few issues: 1) Do your own math, we're not going to figure out what's more profitable for you 2) This has nothing to do with discussing the market which is mostly what Market Discussion is here for 3) If you were really sorry about "requesting info that could be found myself in game" you wouldn't have done it

It's almost topical since, market fluctuations dramatically influence the value of mining in different areas.
You should be able to pull sufficient value in ore mining veldspar for one hour per day with a Retriever, if you've invested in the right skills, some NPC standings, and someone to haul your ore back to station. Astrogeology, T2 Strip Miners, T2 Crystals, and mining upgrades make the difference. Retrievers don't mine much. Hulks will of course bring in the ISK much faster.
I think before I was getting somewhere around 3m/hr mining high sec Veld in the Hulk, though that's probably a bit less now. That's running fully expanded and plain, no MLUs or gang bonuses or any of that.
4.7m a day mining anything is easily obtainable. _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with. I need new lovers in my bed, To be my friends and special pets. |

with crokite... lowball potential per hour income... 30m/hour per character reality.. taking into account hostiles.. small roids.. rats misbehaving (IE shifting lock) etc.. its closer to 15m/hour per miner.... out of that tank and haulers would need to be paid.. unless you do as I do... and run 4 characters yourself :) usualy I make 40-50m/hour potential for well upwards of 100m/hour...
thats at current nerfed zyd prices...
back in the day those figures would have been double or more over what they are today...
I know nothing of lowsec/empire mining since I didnt pick up a mining laser until after I was dragged kicking and screeming into 0.0 by my corp mates.

This estimate is highly variable, from miner to miner. According to Halada's guide you should be able to make 10+ mil per hour mining in a Hulk in high sec with good skills. But while it is easy to calculate how much ISK you can make per hour mining different ores, but there are factors like where you're going to be mining and where you're going to be selling your minerals and if you're going to haul them for sale. To make 5 mil per hour you're probably looking at an hour or less than an hour mining in a Hulk and may be around 2 hours in a Retriever.

Edited by: Nummb on 09/01/2008 03:12:35 You should also look into contracts with mass manufacturers. I can easily keep all my factory slots running using roughly 150 million isk worth of minerals a day. I have several strategies for getting the minerals I need which don't always result in me buying directly from the market, but I along with many others out there love to make contracts with miners.
It is a hit and miss deal some times though. I made a contract with a fellow to buy pyerite at 4.75 per unit and he agreed to deliver 10 million units by the end of the week. Well the end of the week came and there were buy orders for pyerite up for 4.97 per unit. He still sold to me, being a good chap and all and took the loss of potential gains. He did however receive a small bonus for honoring his word and another contract set at a higher price. If pyerite drops .20 isk and I told him that I would bay 4.85 and it is only 4.75 then I am the one over paying.
It can go both ways. Since this is the market forums a little advice. If you cannot get a perfect refine do one of the following:
Sell the ore as is, let someone else buy it and refine it.
Find a friend who can refine with no waste
Train some skills and run some missions mate.
Sell all your minerals at below market price to me.

I didn't go the mining barge route, but I can make 3.5-4.2/hour mining in a Rokh using Miner IIs with an alt hauling in highsec... I hope you can beat that in a Hulk...
(Drops to 3.2/hour if the good roids are gone)

I used to mine, but now I can make 20 mil an hour in a shuttle and a badger harvesting ice :o)
But, one thing you may want to consider is training up mackinaw, you can make about 7.8 MIL an hour quite easy, even better with a hauler alt or another mack. With Hulk trained up, however, you should be around 10 mil(?) an hour mining in hi-sec.
One thing(and maybe it's just because with these new fangled GTC) you may want to consider is doing a cost-benefit analysis on what your time is worth. If your time is worth more than .50/hr might I recommend exploring other parts of the game? my 2isk

You can easily make 10m/hr in a Hulk in Hi-Sec. I think that's a good number to throw around these types of threads.

Anyone have some ballpark comparisons on isk/hr in the old days using an apoc, compared to the barge days not so long ago, compared to exhumer mining now? On the one hand volume has gone up, but on the other obviously the higher volume has pushed prices right down. Do miners make the same per hour regardless of the volume they collectively extract?
I seem to recall 0.0 apoc mining was 15mil an hour, barge mining 25mil, and exhumer mining with the collapsed prices may still be in the 25 range. Is that close?
