Didn't EverQuest have some odd 500.000 subscribers at one point?

Everquest: about 500000. But not on one server.

Final Fantasy Online reported 1 million users. Here's a quote from their website:
Quote: On January 17, 2004, the number of Vana'diel residents (total number of active characters in North America and Japan) broke the 1 million mark! We will make every effort...
I think Eve Online has the right amount of player. It could use some more during the late hours to keep things interesting.

What kind of population does CCP aim for in Eve-Online, because i cant really seeing the servers at the momment being able to handle more then max 20k people on at once, and with for instance other (not as good mmorpgs) there are much higher number of active subscribers how are they planning on competting with that? (just incase anyone actually would know who read this post)
p.s. basicly, realisticly how many people will ccp try to attract to this game?

I think that the theory is that with more subscribers they should have more funds to purchase more servers to act as nodes.
However that still leaves them with handling the problem of hundreds of people in one system which can only be handled by one node.
