I know this is a real nob question... but I've been training an alt to fly a carrier for a year... I've got all appropriet skills to level IV. Build my carrier and now I am clueless on how to get this behemoth out of the system.
I know I need a cyno alt. And it takes fuel (nitrogen I think). But there are three holds: Drones, Corp Hanger, and hold. Which location does fuel have to be in to be used? (Yes I'm sure it is not drones... probably in just the hold which is pritty small)
How do you actually use the cyno alt and use it to get your carrier to warp to them? Any info on this subject would be appreciated.

Right click cyno alt's face - jump to.
Fuel must be in cargo.

Form a gang/fleet with your cyno alt and yourself, active cyno generator alt, then on carrier character right click the alt, and jump to member. If its in range you will jump 'instantly' to the alt.
Use Linkage to plan your route.

first: you need to be in the same gang whit your cyno alt/friend (if you use cyno before inviting to gang.. it doesnt work).
your cyno alt needs liquid ozone to do the cyno. you need the racial fule to jump (it should be under the information tab on the ship)
to you.. you right click the character you want to jump (make sure you know you can get that far first) and click jump... and voila you arrive :) ---------------------------------- Seems that there's a new game that seems to be very popular whit whiners these days. Its called EFT Online.

I know that the cyno alt is stuck at location when the capital ship jumps to it. And now I hear that there is some kind of "recharge" that the capital ship has to wait for... before jumping again. Is this true and how long is it? Does it vary from ship to ship?

This. If you're flying an armor-tanking carrier, all of your mids except one or two should be filled with cap rechargers, and your rigs should all be cap control circuit or semiconductor memory cells. In a shield-tanking carrier, there are several schools of thought as to how to achieve the best recharge-tank ratio. One is the traditional "fill the lows with power diagnostics" route (in combination with cap rigs), but I've found cap power relays to be more effective. Basically, you get the best named or faction CPRs (don't use tech II because they have a larger shield-boost penalty), then get two tech II or faction boost amps; this will offset the penalty from the CPRs and then some (and, as always, cap rigs are your friend).
The reasons for this are twofold: you need to have a sustainable tank and you need to be able to recharge your cap as fast as possible following jump-in. This will allow you to jump back out sooner assuming you have a cyno out in place. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

you think you kno how a carrier works, but infact, untill you spend the 3b (around there, i spent more on mine) for the carrier, you have NO idea what its like flying a carrier...
and undocking a carrier into the middle of a 0.0 gate camp, with a large bubble anchored on the undock, and watching a huge mass of ships warp off, and you catching the dumb moron bs pilots stuck in the bubble is priceless, and a awsome feeling.
but none the less, keep dreaming

Honestly train Jump Drive Calibration to lvl 4 or 5. It's the single most useful skill a cap pilot can ever have.

Yes. I know how a carrier works, I know of it's functions and abilities as both logistics and in battle. What I didn't say is that I know what it's like to fly one. So good job with the rather belitteling attempt at comedy, but it didn't work. ---
