This has probably been discussed before, but anyway
I fail to see the big advantage of modulated strip miner IIs. I've only tried with the smallest mining barge so far with the scordite crystal. But the benefit doesnt seem all that great.
I have Mining lvl5, Mining Barge lvl3, Astrogeology level3, with 2 mining upgrades modules
With a strip miner I, i pull in approximately 930 m3 ore
With a modulated strip miner II, with a scordite crystal, i pull in approximately 1010 m3 of ore
Maybe i'm just being picky, but it doesnt seem like that much of a difference between the 2?
Is there something else i'm missing?

Try T2 Mining crystals. The difference will be a lot more noticable.
But even with a T1 in this case it's 9% more, which might not be worth it taking down Scordite, but try it with the more valuable ores.

with T2 strips I get 1943m3 a cycle, and with t1 it's around 1400 (I don't remember the exact number, I never use them). There's definitely a huge difference when you start getting multiple bonuses because of the way that they exponentially stack.

How do you fail to notice that your pulling in more ore/hour than with the Tech I varient?
Also.. first mining barge is pretty dire. The Osprey will outmine it using Mining Laser II's.

People pay hundreds of mils for a +5% mining yield implant, you get +8.33% with a T1 crystal, or +16.66% with a T2 crystal compared to T1 strips.
Even after crystal costs are factored into the equation, it's usually more than 5% and 10% profit, respectively.
So... yup, you're just picky.

i did not fail to notice i was pulling more, i just said i thought the difference wasn't all that much
and i'm aiming for the exhumers eventually, but for now i'm still stuck with the first mining barge
