Things I don't like about the game: * Mining is so simple it can't even really be considered a 'mini-game' since it doesn't even require you to react to outstide stimuli.
* Missions seem to have no tactical or strategic depth beyond picking your orbital distance.
* Very little group pve.
* Ship configuration limits you to a single strategy, so there little posibility of altering your play in response to the enemy.
* Travel takes a very long time. Staring at the warp animation for 30 minutes one way and then 30 minutes again back the other way is not fun.
* No 'flavor' to the universe makes the above harder to bear. Dock in one station and you've pretty much docked in them all. See one ship of one class/race and you've seen em all.
Things I like about the game: * The epic political stuff I read about on the forums.
* The economy / manufacturing / trading, except for the travel time.
* PvP looks like it might be interesting. If I did much pvp, though, I couldn't really see myself as a pirate, since that revolves around killing defenseless players. Is there an aspect of pvp that revolves around a competition of skill (ie - tactics/strategy) between relatively equal players?
The problem I have is that it looks like it will be a good 3-6 months of training before I can do much pvp of significance. Apparently, to be a real trader (see travel time above), you need a capital ship w/cyno, which takes about 1.5 years of training. Same for manufacturing.
So basically it looks like in order to get to try the parts of the game that look like they might be interesting, I have to wait six months to a year.
My questions are -- (1) are my observations inaccurate? and (2) Is it worth the wait?

There is PLENTY of group pve - you're just not in the right corp.
Eve is not a game you play alone. It's a game where you meet people, make friends, and work together on common goals. That's how you get involved, and that's how you have fun - you can't make the game work for you if you're not involved with other players on a daily basis.
And you DON'T have to have a pile of isk and a mountain of skill points to "enjoy" Eve - all you have to do is get out there and play well with others.
