Edited by: TrustThePilot on 10/01/2008 01:28:35 Edited by: TrustThePilot on 10/01/2008 01:27:54 Ok, so I've played through several trials and finally settled on a pilot I'm happy with (waiting on a GTC to arrive in the post. Snail-mail ftl). I've reached a point where people in Rookie Help keep suggesting I join a corp to help me progress further. I've had a look through the various recruitment forums and most of the corps seem to ask for minimums of ~8m SP or more. How can I improve my chances of appealing to a reputable corp to take me on? E-Uni has been and still is wardec'd, so far as I know, and apparently have a policy of not taking on new recruits during a wardec. I'm happy to continue soloing for the time being, but I'm in this game for the long haul and would benefit a lot from the support of a corp.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -Trust
Edit: typo. Edit 2: typo in my typo.

One thing you could try is making a post yourself in the recruitment thread. Something to the effect of "<your name> looking for <what you wanna do>*. Have <your amount of sp>**" And see who responds. Someone always will
*Like mining corp or pvp corp. ** example being: 1mill sp
Good Luck
Please dear god mods dont nerf this sig too its the 6th freakin one ive put up |

Although I haven't ever been a part of them, EVE University comes highly recommended by pirates and carebears alike. They specialize in taking newbs without experience and churning out competent, space savy pilots who aren't a hazard to themselves and their corp/gang-mates. _______________________________

SP minimums are generally just a guideline. If you show the right sort of enthusiasm and initiative, many corps will take you even at low SP. But you'll have to be off the trial before good ones will accept you. Most corps worth their salt don't take anyone younger than 14 days since there's no guarantee they'll stay beyond the trial, and no way to check that they aren't on one. But someone who has paid for the game is more likely to stick with it and be worth training/guiding/advising.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 10/01/2008 08:02:24 Looking for a corp to join can be an arduous task, unlike other MMO's a corp needs to know what it's doing and where it's going. As such it needs to have a CEO who actually knows the game and fulfills the job that is being a CEO. If you join some idiot corp then that will hinder your own progress and make EVE life less interesting and fun.
Personally, however odd it may sound, I would avoid the recruitment channel. The chances of finding a legit corp there are much lower than when using the recruitment forum. Simple reason is that it takes less effort, so if a corp/CEO can't/won't put in EFFORT to get new players by making a recruit thread on the forum you must question their actions. Either they're oblivious to the forums (which in itself isn't a crime perse, but it might be telling a bit) or they're trying to lure in people for less legit reasons. I'm not saying that you can't find good corps and people there, it's just that your chances are lower.
EVE is all about taking action and being proactive about things, so you're best off to make your own recruit thread saying something like "newbie looking for a home", and then write down what you're looking for, what you would want to do and what not. Don't be afraid to be specific, the more effort you put into it the more a proper corp might be inclined to put effort into you. As with what I wrote above, it goes both ways :)
But yeah, if a wellknown PVP corp starts recruiting then yeah, they will set standards ofcourse. Since you're new you start at the bottom so to speak, but that's just how things are unless you're very lucky. I would very much advise you to join EVE University because they can teach you a whole lot on the game and they're very active which makes it more fun. But they're at war atm so they don't take on new members. Still I'd contact them anyway and try and join them when the war stops since it's the best place to start your EVE career and it's worth waiting a week for.

You can browse the recruitment forum and contact corporations that do not have a skill point limit. There are quite a few of these. Or make your own post there saying what you'd like to get out of joining a corp and what you can offer. If you're into pvp you can also try Agony Unleashed or wait until EVE Uni's war dec ends.

Just for reference: Trial accounts can't directly deposit ISK into others' accounts (presuambly to avoid exploits.) All a recruiter needs to do is ask for a 1 ISK (or even .01 ISK) deposit into their account as a proof of non-trial, if that's one of their standards.
