This problem appeared just after downtime today, after previously no problems.
I click on the EVE shortcut and the splash screen appears as usual, the 2nd eve box appears in the task bar and the splash screen vanishes (all as I would normally expect).
Then instead of the login screen appearing I get nothing apart from 100% CPU usage from evefile.exe. When I click on the EVE program in the task bar, as if minimising it, I get all the CPU back and when I click it again the CPU gets eaten again.
I have un-installed eve, rebooted and reinstalled but it still does the same. I have run the eve.exe (safemode) shortcut in the eve folder with no change.
After running the log server I get this as the first error:
20692008.01.10 13:05:04:008EXCEPTION #17 logged at 10/01/2008 13:05:03
I have checked all the usual suspects, No virus/adware, hdd checked and memory checked fine. This was with the premium client, I am just DL'ing the classic to see if there is any differance, also just posted a petition regarding ths issue.
Any ideas?

AMD 2500+
1.5Gig DDR
Geforce 6600 256mb
Xp Pro SP2

Hey, i am having the same issue.
My client use to work, then i updated my Windows Vista OS and now all i get is the splash screen then nothing. I just bought the game and im really worried i wont be able to play anymore...
suggestions please?

I finally descided that if i want to play eve any time soon then the only option would be to do a complete reprep of my computer.
Now everything works as it was, never know if I am lucky I may get a responce to my petition in say 3 weeks time so I'll up date you then.

I done this and it worked hope this helps you,
[Note: This way is NOT recommended for Vista users!]
1. Create a shortcut to the eve.exe file of the client you use to connect to tranquility
2. right click the shortcut and select "properties"
3. add the following in the "target" box: /end /LUA:OFF [Note: this MUST come AFTER the quotation marks, otherwise it will not work]
Yours should look like this: "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF
4. Click "apply", then "ok"
5. Run EVE from that new shortcut, you should find that you can login now. [Note this causes that particular installation to use the old location for storing the cache information, so your cache will no longer be shared]
