Edited by: Commodore Andrews on 10/01/2008 23:33:10 Okà ill keep this short.
Positives: The devs often pop in to interact with the playerbase. This is nice.
Negitives:
Profanity Filter û WAY overpowered
General Censorship û Over enforced to the point where I think sometimes things get *clicked* just to show off the e-peen (Where can I go to get my masters in *clicking* so one day I can be a forum moderator). No discussing moderation etcà sigh
Signatures û give us a break with the size and content restraints. The donÆt like your sig it is deleted, with no explination. You have to email them to unlock the signature setting? I think a sig deletion and a reason (so we can fix it) would be quite enough. kthx
That is all.

Seriously, yes the profanity filter is kinda whack but moderation is fair imho, they've really stepped up and made the forums semi worthwhile again from the goon(and goonwannabees)spamfest it had become. - - -

Forum moderation can be a slippery slope in both directions of to much and to little. And alot of times I think any one that has moderated a forums would rather slide to to strict instead of to lax. ____________________________ One Thead to rule them all - Boot.ini pre-patch thread

The profanity filter, while vaguely annoying, doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Moderation seems pretty fair to me... ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

I think the first forum beta version .01 had a search button.

I had the text of the command line in the Trinity upgrade as my sig and even though it was within the rules it was removed to "Facilitate the search functions" ----------------------------------------------- My new years resolution is to give up nonconstructive posting |

Discussion a GM actions is against the forum rules, you better edit that.

The thing I've seen that really bothers me is mods squashing any attempt to discuss certain subjects. There's no profanity, no spamming, it's Eve related, but because CCP doesn't want the information spreading through the player base the mods come down on it like a 10 ton safe. Most recently there was the iMune situation. Immediately after it was ruled cheating every thread (even the ones with ligitimate discussion) were locked down tighter than Amish cootch.

It wasn't a GM action as far as I am aware it was just removed with that text replacing it and publicly visible. As for breaching any rules regarding no discussion of moderation this thread already achieved that before I posted :P ----------------------------------------------- My new years resolution is to give up nonconstructive posting |

I am not discussing any "example instances" of moderation. Just commenting on the forum as a whole
If this were a violation there would be no topics allows discussing the filter for example. That is a function of the forum not an example of moderation.
At least thatÆs the way I look at it.

You almost directly accuse the Mods of locking threads due to e-peen:-

I have to aggree that the censor filter on this forum is beyond ridiculous and stupid. I think only people over 18 were suppose to play Eve according to the old Eula, now it's 13 years.
So they think that oh, if we magically censor things like craic or **** that parents will think it's ok for their child to play this, thing is kids don't like Eve, at least very few do.
The amount of real words that get censored on the forum is really well out of hand. I'm all for censoring racially offensive words and the like, but normal everyday stuff that we all use or even more colourful language is just taking this pc crap way too far.

I dont use the forums here very much because of the overmoderation. The purpose of a forum for an mmo, aside from just discussing the game and the design, is to discuss how the game is operated - which comes down to GM and to the side, moderator actions.
CCP only disallows discussion of GM and moderator actions to avoid criticism. As players, we should not be worried about whether CCP wants their actions to be public or not.
And no, I've not had any moderator or GM action so I'm not just complaining about something that didn't go my way. On the side, a GM was very helpful to me a few days ago regarding a blueprint job I couldn't complete/cancel, but heaven help me if I actually told anyone what happened.

This is true. I moderate a forum myself and have modded others and once the userbase grows beyond a point of easy control (where you know the posters behaviors and have time to judge each case as well as take the user's posting style into account), you simply have to generalise everything and set up an increasingly large and/or strict set of rules as more people start breaking the "common sense" rules.
It might seem tough on a first time offender if he gets a strict-ish warning for spamming/trolling/whatever that might be fairly harmless if only he/she did it but he/she does not know that this is the 47436234234th time the mod sees the violation and is getting pretty damn tired of it.
Overall, I think the mods do a fairly good job, although I agree that the wordfilter is fairly extreme in some areas, like with the word "********".. That would be r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d. If you're on an internet forum and that is the worst you have ever been called, you should get some sort of special medal for extreme luck, having avoided almost 100% of all flame posts ever.
