I''ve been watching the Tech II Market and I''ve seen prices for components increasing while the prices for modules decreasing.
I realise that there is a huge amount of profitability in Tech II and the prices allow for this, however, people are continually looking to undercut the prices others are offering in order to get a larger market share from the larger corporations.
But if the current trend continues, all Tech II modules will become worthless shortly after they come out. That is unless people agree not to take part in gross undercutting, I really don''t know how this would be done, but I think it should for the sake of forward planning with regard to the eve market.
anyway, rant over. |

This happened with the ship market back when the game was first released. Sad thing really, as there will always be someone willing to sell for less, until it just isn't profitable anymore. I would like to say it is capitalism at work, but the demand dwarfs the supply, so there isn't really any excuse except people who don't want to have to wait a few hours for cash influxes. |

While it is slightly off subject tech 1 items drop all the time so some people arn't interested in profit over the refine cost.
So you will also get people who like to make stuff and are not bothered about the apparent costs, which is time.
It all comes down to how much they think their time is worth. Some will think rightly or wrongly, that because they are playing a 'game' and having 'fun', the cost of their time is minimal. So the prices they are willing to sell at are as low as the lowest price. Even if they have to under cut the minimum price.
This oh course would all change if the game had an in depth cash drain. But hangers, factories and labs are the only thing that does. Don't even talk about insurance as every gets free 40% now. And you don't need platinum for a cruiser in high sec space.
The example that happed to me recently is a Kestral for sale at 100K. This I believe is below the construction cost. So they either needed money desperately or are not bothered about its 'value'.
Have a nice day

If there were propper regional markets, then there wouldnt be so much competition and so much undercutting.
Kill the super highways, promote propper regional markets!

Yup! But what a shame that you first have to buy his product before you know who is undercutting you

On a similar theme, I'd originally though that there was only going to be one batch of Tech 2 bps for each module issued, but from the looks of it there have been 2 or 3 seperate batches with 2-3 bps in each. Whilst only only having one or two bps out there effectively means a monopoly like the Miner 2 fiasco, having upwards of 6 is likely to harm the market given how easy it is to get from region to region (for the sellers at least :-) ).

Hehe, I'd love to hear that same rant when big business have finished outsourcing your line of work to workfarms in the third world.
Unchecked capitalism is nothing short of panic on a sinking ship.

Tech II BPs should have a staggered release.
Say for example Cargo Expander II. One of these BPs get released. Another week later another BP gets released. Another week later another BP gets released.
This would allow a monopoly situation for the first corp to 'develop' this product. However, this monopoly would not last for long thus creating a price-war.
The people who would be affected by this are those that want the NEW stuff STRAIGHT AWAY. They will have to pay more, just like in RL.
However, this doesn't combat that long term problem. The only way I can see this changing is if:
1) Construction becomes more time consuming, and skill dependant. Most of us old players are still 'jack-of-all trade' characters, even with some 'advanced skills' on the market. Even tho I don't use it often, I trained up Surgical Strike L 5 ages ago, and so if a 'specialised' combat skill comes along requiring it, I can still train it up even tho I don't consider myself a combat pilot. Equally, the Tech 2 construction skills take less than 2 weeks to be able to train up - far too little time for what should be considered a 'specialised' skill.
2) Some random element is added to construction. It's not right that a newb with Industry L 1 can build a top-range battleship (given a BP). Prices would stabilise with a decent profit margin if you couldn't be SURE that you'll get a decent Tech 2 item out of the factory EVERY time.
Just my 10 cents anyway...

Out sourcing is a great tool. It keeps cost down and clears out menial jobs such as simple facotry jobs, telemarketing etc which are the largest people effected. 100 years 95% of the labour force in the US was in agriculture and it changed and we were hearing the same arguments back them oh no what am I going to do now that I dont pick potatoes out the ground. Well it seems the US did fine by getting rid of agriculture jobs and what happened as well was a huge increase in productivity for farms so great infact we do not know what to do with the food that is produced.
Anyone here wanting monopoly powers are the same ones who probably complain about wall marts coming to town. You all are the same people that will sell an item fot 999999999 million just to artficialy inflate the average price. Monopolys are bad. Unless you own them.
