New to the game and I am interested in the concept of mercenaries. I do know there are scammers out there so for me and other new players or players who may not have communicated worked with MERCs.
So what is the best way to go about creating a deal and making sure it happens all the while making sure you don't get scammed
Productive comments are welcome.

Thanks for your time |

Also, make sure you get contracts with trusted merc corps. Getting to know some corps is a good way to start, but the larger, more infamous ones are probably your best bet. I've said this in another thread, but I'll list a few for you that are trusted and will get the job done:
NOIR. AQUILA The Last Chancers No Kings Double Tap. Rooks and Kings Narwhals Ate My Duck The 0rphanage Tear extraction and reclamation service
These are only a few. Like Lady Spank said, join the MERC channel in-game. You can usually find a decent hitman that way. I have schemed too long to be supplanted by dead gods. If I cannot have this world, no one can. |

Keep in mind that hiring a reputable Merc corp is going to be a rather expensive undertaking. They risk billions in ships to complete the contract, and they will expect you to pay billions to cover any losses they may incur while still providing their pilots with a profit on their time.
Costs are always relative to the targets strength, length or goal of the service, and entertainment value for the merc. They aren't going to want to sit on gates or actively hunt one guy who never undocks for a measly fee. That's just boring as **** and mercs not only play for profit, but they play for fun too. |

The 'concept' of mercenary work sounds romantic. But in actuality, it's not as fun as many would imagine. It would be interesting to hear how many startup mercs don't last more than 6 months. Anyone from the Merc community care to share their observations? Apparently, once you create a sig. You can't completely delete it. So this is my sig...for now. |

I don't like it.
The only reason I am in one I get to shoot at people. I make less isk than I normally do and I feel trapped, like I am not allowed or supposed to do something that might bring the Alliance/Corp into disrepute. Or cause something that might get them delisted from the MERC Channel.
In the end for most it's all about shooting at things. "Demoralize the Enemy from within by Surprise, Terror, Sabotage, Assassination. This method of Guarilla Warfare is the only Method of Warfare for me"

You get what you pay for, believe me. I've been on the receiving end of No Kings, and I was told by a certain little birdie (who is now corpsified) that they were paid a handsome sum for every legit kill. Beleive me, they got their monies worth.
Yes, the more well known mercs cost more, but you can be guaranteed that they will do their utmost to kill their targets over and over. Also, you'd be paying for a piece of mind, knowing that your enemy is either bored out of their mind spinning their ship, or a smoldering wreck somewhere near Jita. If you do end up hiring mercenary corporation without much experience, then it is best to pay for the war dec itself and then arrange some kind of per-kill fee.

For the most part, yes. You hire mercs on a corp and they scrape. You hire them on an alliance and all but one or two corps quit the alliance. It's rather difficult to cause your targets any amount of pain right now.
Prior to CCP derping the wardec mechanics, I was able to do quite a bit of damage by hiring an unproven merc corp for a rather small amount of isk. For 100 million they spent two weeks chasing members of the target corp all over space until most of the quit and the CEO ragequit Eve due to his dashed alliance ambitions. |

The skool lasted longer than 6 months (and I believe its still going without me) but yes, its very very boring work camping people in to stations all day long and the pay is terrible.. For most contracts you can just take the money, wardec someone and then never see them. (Or save money by not even bothering to wardec them) |

Speaking from a Mercs point of view.
Each type of sec provides its own challenges. Most of the time your doing something you wouldn't really like to do as a merc. example... nobody really wants to remove 4 POCs and 2 POS from a c2. Its boring, not alot of defenders to tend with and it usualy doesn't pay well. Or in K-space.. your playing corp hoping, gate camping and station games. They can be rewardinging... but usually very boring. And your doing it for a period of time were you could be 'bearing it up' some place else and making more money.
I think being a W-Space merc is more fun than all other types of space. Atleast in W-space you can cycle the targets static.. get some 'action on the side' from people not involved in the contract. Break up the tedium with other activities... Like play our newest game, ... "you shot my drones... now we remove your pos"... Drones must be avenged.
Mercs although blood thristy and just really looking for any exuse to pew... you will find we are quite honorable. You don't 'make it long in this biz breaking your word and double crossing people. If your going to hire them... make sure you get all details worked out.. and I mean ALLL details. If you pay them to stay in a spot and rule a system for 24 hours. They will hold you to that, when that 24 hours is up... They will be gone. We pride our selves following a contract to the T. |
