Oh no, another wayward soul looking for answers... I, just like you made an Amarrian character (obviously) and just like you I fell foul of the "shinier" vessels in EvE like the Mega and the Raven. It wasn't until mid 2007 that I started really training up my Amarrian ship and laser skills. Once I had done this (still some work to be done) I realised just how good they can be.
The thing is, you have to look at the ships and the flying of the ships from an Amarrian stand point. They are very rigid people, they do one thing well and stick to it, their tactics do not evolve as quickly as the other races. But they are still a potent and powerful force. Take this to your skill training schedule, train your engineering skills only for capacitor and cast away shield skills for a later time, train armour comp skills to level 5 and only train lasers and gunnery skills for now. If you focus your training you will become very adept pretty quickly. That is the problem with Amarrian ships, they require a bit more specialisation than say Caldari where:
Average shield skills + average missile skills + Raven = Above average ship (note the word ship and not pilot)
With Amarr you need top skills but the potential is that much greater. Take the Abaddon, with Amarr BS level 5 it is nearly unstoppable in all but the most dire of situations, but as with most Amarr ships, it has two speeds "Steamroller" and "Turtle". As someone who flitted between all of the race's ships I urge you to stick with Amarr just for a little longer, by easter you will be back here regailing us with tales of your Maller tanking ships twice it's size and many in number whilst still being able to fight them off. In a gang where you are the only or one of the few Amarrian ships you can take the damage for your friends to keep everyone in play, in fact if you want to siege a position I can't think of any better ships to bring to the fight.

Originally by: Spencer Takarr However, after browsing through the forums and through very little in-game experience, I have been getting the message that Amarr are very gimped in terms of PvP combat. Is this true?
I started out as Caldari, because I liked it's description, but almost immediately I switched to training Amarr and I am still here.
Since you'll be sharing several skills with other races, crosstraining won't be hard at a later stage. My advice would be to stick to Amarr for a while and see if you still like it. The experience you gain just by trying it out will help you, no matter what you end up flying in.
Oh and: All races and all ships have pvp situations in which they are gimped compared to other ships. ---

It really seems to be that no race really is better than another. It just really depends on exactly what you want to do. There's many different kinds of PVP and many kinds of ships. You can always cross train different races too.

IMHO, Amarr take alot more skill to pvp well in. And , like Minmatar from my experience, you just ant jump into any fight. You have to have more awareness of what you can take on, probally take on, and have no chance of standing a chance at with. Armageddon , imo, really shines in gangs. From what people seem to say is its either all gank or some gank and more tank, I may have it mixed up though.
I fought 2 sacrileges befor , lost both times , but I can say that they are pretty good in pvp.
I think pvp is more about situation and the tactics you use instead of thinking all the time in the mindstate "My ship is better on paper than your ship is." And like many other people say, it also c omes down to the skills you have.

The devs seeem to dissagree with you mister l33t M00dy, they have stated on several accounts that Amarr lacks something, that it needs a ooomph, that they do need some improving. However that doesn't make them a PVP disaster. :)

Kinda stupid how you see Amarr BS's all over and yet they suck at PvP :/. Kinda funny how they suck so bad that established pvp groups run these. Must be because they suck.

Yeah....an armor tanked Drake....thats a kill there...well..
I had a bet on a 1 on 1 between two of my corpmates.
Good skilled Caldari in a passive Drake vs. good skilled Amarr in a Harb (both full T2 fit)
Drake 60% Shield, Harb in Hull....Harb refits...same result.
I took a bet and lost 200mil.
Anywas I like Amarr and will stick to it. I think they rock as good as any other race. Will need some skills though.

What reason is there to post screens from patches ages ago?
I killed a sac in a celestis and I ransomed a zealot in it. I also beat every BC in the game except drake or myrm with the celestis pre trinity. The same setup could handle any AF as well. But now it cannot.
Yeah the punisher is good.
In every other t1 ship class there are more AND better options then amarr for a new player IMO.

Which should prove that amarr is a good race for solo piracy NOW?
Sorry but I don't see the logic.
I wouldn't advice someone to use the celestis as a pirate ship now, I think its utterly useless. before trinity it was one of the best, if not even the best, pirate cruiser.

Did anyone ever read some of the ship descriptions? "With a Well Trained Pilot..."
That's all there is to making Amarr work for you, focus your training as stated already. Simple isn't it?

That's the whole problem - you need to spec a lot to get even with a nublar in a Myrmidon. Sure, Amarr works, it's still not balanced though.

I'm a Amarr specialist. I have about 30 million skillpoints, I have Amarr frigate, cruiser, and battleship at 5, and I can fly every amarr ship in the game bar capitals. I have Large beam and pulse spec 4.
The only non-amarr ship skill I have is Gallente frigate 5, because the Anathema sucks (yes, the Anathema is one of the few amarr ships that just suck, in my opinion).
You can PvP just fine in Amarr ships. If you believe Amarr are seriously gimped, you need to learn to play, or you have been infected with the EVE-O forum stupidity.

IMO amarr T2 are really fine.
Amarr T1 below BS... Can do better, with less sp, with another race.
T1 amarr BS are the best choice for small gate / station camps

FFS, for all you noobs filling him with nonsense that amarr are second to gallente and minmater.... look at EFT.
Lets start with ships you are likely to fly, ull probably start off your eve career flying cruisers, while i admit the amarr cruisers are lacking to the other races cruisers, you have the best battlecruiser.
Post Drone Band-width nerf the Harbringer is the best bc. Fit 2 1600 plates on it, passive armor hardeners, and trimark armor rigs, and you have the meanest battlecruiser out there.
Also, debatabely they have the best bs... the abaddon, which gank/plate fitted can destroy a mega. Dont let ne1 tell u amarr suck. If i were you i would train for the sacrilege, and nano fit it (aka make it go really fast and orbit your targets). Then go for a abaddon. GL in your PvP future ^^

The problem with amarr isnt that all thier ships suck, its that alot of thier ships suck. Most of the t1 amarr ships are fail except for the punisher, geddon, abaddon, and harbinger (although i do have a special place in my heart for the prophecy).
When you get to t2 ships amarr are much better although a second mid on the retribution and a drone bay on the zealot wouldnt go amiss.
Oh and BTW the sacrilege is amazing, im in love with it atm.

Amarr ships are fine, and if fit and piloted well, can be extremely dangerous ships. People whine about the balance to compensate for their own incompetence at fitting and flying their ships.
