Just a brainfart here, how about remodelling the now useless rockets to be that shortrange option by giving them insane RoF and making them faster than the alternatives yet miss more often. The downside would be a significant waste of ammo yet the initial barrage should have a terrifying effect.

Jim everything you are saying is why I don't have a raven. I usually leave a raven vs. scorp fight because no matter what I do you cannot stop the hordes of missiles a raven spews out.
I love tactical fighting much more than just pumping ammo out of a tempest, apoc, raven, and all others. So I use a scorp. It is funny tho when I have say an apoc locked down. I start thowing everything I have at it. But if it has a large shield booster and cap rechargers I cannot do enough damage to ever get its shields down. I sometimes hunt my prey alone, but the scorp is only good for this if the other guy makes a big mistake on battleship layout. The scorp really shouldn't be flown on solo kill missions against players that know you are coming for them in a scorp. But if you are up for a challenge the scorp will give it to you.
One saving grace, it is the best support ship for larger battles in the game. Also, damn it owns cruisers.......... SNIGG is now officially open for business. We are a merc corp looking for contracts. For more info click below http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=68313 |

Quote: A Caldari ship has less turret space and more launchers space, which makes it good for EW. If for example an moa is hit with EW, it can still fire with 2 launchers filled with fof, a thorax can't. A Blackbird with EW can take on every cruiser with only turret space, like the thorax, vexor, etc...
Huh? Thorax has 8+ heavy drones it can rely on if it's jammed. Which is a LOT more damage than firing two FOF Cruise missiles every 15 seconds.. ------

have you seen those missle / rocket launchers on CNN that they used in he Gulf war? They **** out missles at a rate of about 5 a second, that is from the technology of a race that hasn't even completely left the orbit of it's own planet.

Ok. Implement a safe-area radius around the ships launching the missiles and the ships in gang with them. After you bump them up in other areas, of course.
Why?
Make frigates more viable. Also, decrease heavy drone efficiency against frigates. I don't care how. Just retain effectiveness against B-ships and cruisers, and make them a bit useless against frigates. I mean, ****. Frigates are supposed to be able to DANCE around battleships. Cruisers are frigate killers, and battleship bait. Frigates are the most fun ship class in EVE, and they still suck because of this and lag.

Yes Brent, now calculate the RoF on railguns and figure out why they all have been slowed down.

I wonder if there was a new modified EW added that could help. What if a Caldari could cripple a weapon mount of another race. This would allow the Caldari to use their med slots to the effect of reducing the number of weapons firing at them. Call it Weapon mount jamming or something similar. Current EW effects your targetting as a whole, your weapons tracking, etc. Id rather see a turret disruptor, or missile bay scrambler, etc.

I still think Caldari should have stealth missiles that are only detectable at 2k...
Imagine a raven shooting a couple of railguns at you from afar... you think "Not a problem" and then a hailstorm of stealth cruise is detected just before they hammer your shields....
Would be awesome! -------------------------------------------

1. Missiles need to be faster
I've activated my two missile launchers before activating guns at a target 30km away, out of the 4 missiles fired, 3 are still flying around after the target is dead.
2. Missiles should be built in stacks of 100 like ammo.

I think most of you dont remind, that using a cruisemissiel or a torpedo is much easier than using turrets is.
That objection is only valid for new characters. Any older character is beyond that limitation. The missiles in my opinion have 2 strong points, but those are mere trivia: - the ability to kill indy in a kestrel or some other frigate. Not that you cannot do it equally well with, say, rifter and 280s. - FoF-missiles
Negative sides are many: - COST - time to deliver damage - concord-gank potential
The "always dishes out max damage" may be true when fighting frigates/cruisers, but on a battleship level, especially in large numbers, this is not true.
Missiles for me are like handy high-slot filling that doesn't require cap, and FoF placeholder.
And btw, THEY COST TOO DAMN MUCH! --

Edited by: Istvaan Shogaatsu on 22/03/2004 19:54:27 Let's look at that "always dishes out max damage" bit. Missiles deal out damage (note, not max damage) if:
- They do not hit something else on the way. - They are not taken down by defender rockets. - They are not taken down by smartbombs. - The enemy does not flee before they arrive.
Please note that only missiles suffer from these horrible drawbacks, no other weapon. Now, finally, the missiles hit. Do they, then, deal out max damage?
Quote: Blood Revenant's Thunderbolt Heavy Missile hits you for 75.0 damage.
Say, aren't Thunderbolts supposed to do 150 damage? Oh that's right, I had a shield hardener turned on. GG missiles, you just spent 15 seconds inflicting the amount of damage I do with one turret in 4 seconds.
The word "always" doesn't apply.

And being a new player to eve, choosing caldari is the biggest mistake I made. Everyone say it's good for pvp, but that's useless to me since I lack the skill points to use EW effectively and those cruise/torpedoes simply cost TOO MUCH. For mining they are suck big time. So all that's left is to use it for agent running till I get enough skill points to use caldary effectively *someday*.
If i were to start again, I would choose any other race except Caldari to start with and get the skills for caldari ships much later, maybe when I have a couple million skill points already.

Fully agree - ever tried rat hunting in a belt in a scorp? May as well not bother with the two launcher slots the amount that explode because there is an asteroid with 3 au of the ship. That and the fact a scorp needs half an hour to navigate around an asteroid...
Even if a lot hit, half the time the ammo you've used is about half the bounty you get back at the end

Point is, most newer players won't get involved in EW until they've a few SP (i know i won't..) because they don't have the skills or the experience to mix it with those that have been on months.
What I want to know is why is that having picked caldari, it costs me ten times more money to do the same damage as an equivelent races ship?

Quote: Jim, I completely agree that something needs to be done, but missles cant simply be upped in speed. Everything else in your post I can agree with. Suggestions to fix the problems with simply upping missle speeds?
Why can't we have high velocity long range missiles and powerful slower short range missiles, like switching from anti-matter to iridium?
How are Caldari supposed to fight when missiles take over 30 seconds to hit targets? 30 seconds is a long time in combat, I don't think you guys understand fleet combat much.
Here's the experience of a Raven pilot:
Your fleet leader picks a target, you fire, the guys with the 1400mm/Tachyons/425mm Railguns beat the hell out of him, you fire your turrets, which you probably only have 2 of, and your missiles, the guy takes damage, 10-15 seconds later the guy is warping out or he's dead, either way, he's gone. Your missiles make a neat light show and go poof doing no damage, the end.
You did absoletely nothing to contribute, except throw ISK at a guy, might as well go buy a damn Tempest.
It's not balanced, we need missiles that work properly in fleet combat -- they need to be faster.
The problem with EVE combat is the part I bolded. If the fights lasted as long as they should ( 10 times as long as they do now ) then there wouldn't be a problem.
Increase ALL ships shields/armor/hull by 5 times but do NOT increase shield boosters or armor repairers. Do not increase the ships cap either. This would allow ships to live long enough for missiles to arrive and hit. It would also allow ships to live long enough for gang mates to react to help.
It would allow more teamwork beyond a premade plan and "everyone on soandso".

What about having modules to boost missile performances?
Advanced missile guidance computer = more dmg Accellerated missile navigation computer = faster Accellerated missile deployment computer = faster rof Expanded missile slots = add 50% to missile load space (so interceptors can fire torps as well)
Give them race bonusses (so those stinking caldarians can use them better)
Surely the engineers could work this idea out. Might not be new but exciting. ___________________________ Favorite bumpersticker of the month: My head hurts! |

Hmmmm...
I read something here really interesting: the rof would be bound to the missile type, not the launcher. Makes all the sense in the world. Each launcher would have a modifier for that base rof.
In fact, a new skill for missile rof also makes sense. _______________________________________________

how to fix imo (forgive me if said I read 3 pages)
- Raven 5% to missle launcher fire rate, 5% to missle dmg
- Scorpion 5% to shields, 5% to missle speed.
- missles get decreased in cost by 75%
- missles get a 50% speed increase on cruise missle's. Torps stay the same or slightly faster speed and get a increase in dmg to 500.
- Agility on torps and cruise gets nerfd at low speeds.
I think this fixes everything tomb get to work . _______________________________________________________ Get custom sigs and graphics done here Unforgivn Website

It would also make it easy to...
-stop firing and jump at a gate
-log off to avoid death
-Run any and every gate at 100 m/s while webbed using your mwd's.
Good idea but it would create more bad then good. _______________________________________________________ Get custom sigs and graphics done here Unforgivn Website

Each launcher should have a base rof with the missile having a rof modifier akin to the hybrid cap use per ammo, beam cap use per crystal, and space proj ammo uses. Only problem is now Ill spend even more money on missiles if they fire even faster.
