Use most damaging. Faction antimatter , and Hammerhead drones.

I'd also say Anti Matter, though I'm not sure I'd pony up the cash for Faction. Faction is unarguably better of course.
Also, your damage is kin/therm no matter which ammo you choose so it's more of a question of "what range do you want to fight at" or perhaps more correctly "how much gankage do you want"

Edited by: sleepyhead87 on 13/01/2008 08:23:10 X_X If you're in a gank setup, what are you doing with heavy neutron blasters?! Get some light t2 turrets ^^ plate it and some ecm drones. A gang of thoraxes with ridiculous amounts of armor hp and ecm drones is something to fear.
Get a ****load of ecm drones on the target and you will definitely get quite a few jam cycles in there leaving you time to pound away at 'em with your light guns. The more the merrier, in this case, the more the gankier. (yes i know, but dont say anything please )
Although, its recommended to have a support ship or the like with some remote reps or armor repper drones, and have one of your gang ships carry them. Not really necessary, but if you wanna come in full force everytime, its a good idea to come in with full armor.
Edit: Oops forgot, the people above should've answered your question but yes, generally antimatter is the preferred ammo for hybrid turrets in pvp as they output the most damage. The range penalty doesn't quite matter because you're pretty close anyways (usually within 10km) and thats within web and scram range, so if you're gonna get stuck in that close anyway, might as well do some extra damage.
Also, I'd...er....go cheap on the ships and fitting if you're new to the pvp aspect of the game...Nothing better than a few hard-taught lessons after losing a ship, sure it hurts more when it cost your whole wallet, but at that point you'd be broke and unable to make money, so always have a spare ship or some isk to recover with. Yeah, anything other than medium blasters on a Thorax is dumb, especially considering that the ship's damage bonus only applies to medium guns. But yes, if you have the skills for ECM drones, by all means use them. If not Hammerhead drones and antimatter ammo is the way to go. _____________________________________________________________________________

Umm, if you plate it and use small rails and use ecm drones then it's clearly not a gank setup anymore.

Edited by: corroded on 13/01/2008 11:10:10 anything with oversized plates and downgraded guns isnt a gank setup.
be a man and fit medium neuts + a stack of stabs.
if you find yourself needing more hp's youve done something wrong. (like picked the wrong target)
oh, and ecm drones are nice.

If you're in a gang with more then 10 people, then you should think about using rails instead. Over the time the victim is busy dying you will do more damage overall because you are in range much faster ( almost instantly ). And if you use neutron blasters on a thorax you have almost no PG to spare for anything else, thus ions may be a better choice.

Gang setup relies more on ECM drones and medium blasters. It's somewhat vulnerable to frigates however. If you don't use ECM drones , then you need a plate which reduces your acceleration - not a big worry for solo.

small turrets in a gank setup?
to fit a gank setup in a thorax you need: 1) biggest turrets you can fit 2) damage control unit (paramount) 3) mwd 4) slap damage mods in the remaining low slots 5) ECM drones 6) faction AM.
a gank setup relies more on damage than on armor, mate. ---
