I am fairly new (atleast to being a scientist). I am wondering if and how you can make money as a Scientist. Is it possible to make money by copying Blueprints and then selling them? This is my first pure scientist character and am wondering if it is possible. I don't really care much for the production side of things, just the research and copying side of things. If anyone has any insite or tips to help out, that'd be great. Thanks!

Edited by: Righteous Fury on 22/03/2004 14:48:34 Yes, its very possible to earn money as a scientist. Normal ways are escrowing blueprint copies and/or selling originals. Other than that, you'd be pretty hard pressed for any other cash flow.

I spent about 3 months in BPc sales, as it is a perfect complement to R&D agent management (my primary focus). It requires a lot of capital, ~50 million, and a lot of patience (about 1 month) before you start seeing any ROI.
Purchase BP (~35 million) Research ME 10: ~30 days Copy BP with 5 runs: 5 days
You'd have to sell 18 BPc's for 1,950,000 to recoup your investment, which I'd estimate to take at least a month. So, basically, it is a good long-term moneymaker, but only for those who have established themselves financially.
Obviously, you could use frigate BPs, but I've no idea if it would be worth the effort.

Most careers in eve are two sided. You will be best suited if you where Scientist/agent runner. These are the guys that have both skills that are driven the new Tech II bpo world. Its a hard life. Agents for courrier missions is more likely to be up your ally. The skills required is like anything a hard choice.
Find out alot about agents and the research and lab ops fields.
Always look into skill needs. --------------------------

Do I really have to do courier missions? man, they are so boring. I wish i could just jump into researching. even if it is little crap like ammo BP's. Oh well. nothing good comes free i guess.

Suggestion: Find a NPC corp that have a r&d department. Preferly a medium sized or small sized corp. You gain standing faster than you would with a large/hurge corp afaik. Start with the best lvl 1 agent you can find, once you are able to use one of their lvl 2 agents, switch to it. Keep switch to agents with better quality as your standing increase and their agents become available to you. Your aim should be their top lvl 3 research agent in the field you want to start research. It takes a lot of work but can pay out quite nice in the end. The time you spend doing agent missions its wise you spend on science related skills, you will need them for the r&d work.

Thanx, that's some good advice. I've been doing some missions for Duvolle Laboratories with their R&D dept. It seems like a fairly larger corp., and it is takin awhile to move up. Do you know of any smaller NPC corps that might be better?
