Assuming the occupant stayed there four nights a week and went home at weekends then the cost of a hotel in the area over a few years would have been more than he was losing in interest by not having the money. That said it was a very expensive luxury. Most people would have settled for an hour on the train each day. An hour of your time had to be pretty valuable to go for it. I could explain what is up with the british economy but it would be politics. Instead I'll link here and call for the abolition of potatoes. ---- Anything less is wasted effort

For a decent location and decent condition apartment, it's at least 80k euros (more likely 100-125).
