mama guru Gallente Corp 1 Allstars Insurgency	Posted - 2008.01.14 20:41:00 - [1] TL;DR= see last parts of the post So there i was, i had just watched AVP:R on the cinema about 10 days ago. The movie was good, had itÆs flaws. But the person that says this movie was worse then Paul Andersons peice of crap can go shoot him/herself. Needles to say, i got a call and a good friend of mine asked if i wanted to come over and chill, smoking Hookah and have a beer or two. (This is a hookah: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hookah) Backstory ûthe forge of eHatred: I have been, and still am to some extent, an anime "basher". This means that IÆve generally held anime and the overblown, japanophile fanbase in a very negative view. Why? Well first of China>Japan in my opinion(they stand equal in terms of food however). Secondly, im a Swedish guy born in 1989. This means the internet grew up with me. This also means that unless you were a complete nerd back then in my earliest teens the only anime you could ever find was stuff like swe-dubbed Pokemon and Sailormoon that was aired in the mornings with the other kids shows. These infections also left a mark and swedes in general have never grasped what these anime fans are all about, even the ones who are not completely devoted. Then came the internet. Hell i didnt even know it was called anime untill 2003(No joke, i just called it japanese drawn cartoons). Now the internet has ôalwyasö been avavible. But pre 2000 it was mainly regarded as a source of communication and to some extent a source of entertainment(online gaming etc) with limitations. That entertainment aspect increased with the large amount of cheap ass broadband connections that flooded the swedish market after 2000. Then the internet became widly accepted as the prime source of entertainment for those that had it avavible, and many, many do. And itÆs avavability(sp?) grew alot in those years, all while hearing horror stories about american ISPÆs. Life was good. /Backstory So i ended up watching this video called AMV hell 4, which was outright hillarious in some respects. 40 Cent was the guy that inspired me to do it via EVE hell. But stuff like that changed nothing in me, because essentially they took an already existing form of entertainment and just paired it up with entirely different sound clips in order to produce comedy. Further more youtube and the like is littered with my favourite songs fueling anime montages for DBZ etc. I will hate these people forever because of this. So i told my friend that this AMV hell changes nothing about anime at all, and to some extent he agreed. But he still told me i should try and watch something, and eventually i agreed and he recomended a pair of series called Elfen Lied and Death Note. We agreed that: If i honestly hated it still, IÆd win. If i liked it, IÆd post it on the internet and seek more. That was the bet. I ôlostö. I Downloaded both series about a week ago and needless to say i was rather impressed and found it all completely watchable. Despite the excessive gore and nudity found in Elfen Lied. However some of the anime stereotypes that bugged me still existed in both. But then again American war movies are good sometimes, even if they portrait stuff very one-sided which i despise. Never really been a fan of Japanese voice acting either. So now i sit here with the Surfers Guide to the Internet, Encyclopediadramatica and Wikipedia and ask for your, my fellow eveplayers recomendations. Is there more to anime then reaches the eyes? To narrow down what i dislike without even watching it(not necessarily anime related): -Ninjas -Samurai -Robot stuff, note that this does not mean Sci-Fi -Slice of Life, exceptions exist ofcourse outside of anime mainly. -Dragons -I found out about fanservice on wikipedia and decided to dislike it aswell -Buying culture What i like(entertainment in general): -Serious buisness -Psychological stuff -Violence is always fun -A good plot and themes that usually explore the darker sides of human nature -Comedy -Practical jokes *signature removed - please email us to find out why (include a link) - Jacques([email protected]) EVE is like the "Fisherman's Friend" of MMOs. Serial Experiments Lain is good. Ergo Proxy is good. Last Exile is good. Haruhi is good (though the anime was, one could say, "KyoAni'd").

Excel Saga - pure comedy, possibly the funniest non-standup comedy i have ever seen 2. Gunslinger Girls - serious business 3. Soul Taker - after the first couple of episodes, extremely serious business 4. DigiCharat - very funny 5. Texhnolyze - so serious you actually need to pay attention There are other anime I like more than this but they are probably a bit too Slice of Life-y -------------------------------------------------- brakespear - the lowest common denominator

And please get the Subbed version, the Dub is horrible IIRC. All the other stuff I would suggest you has already been mentioned.

But then Destiny came out, and it was so atrocious that it made people embarrassed to admit that they liked SEED. Pokemon - First and second season was good. The rest are GARBAGE. Seriously, even the games. The ONLY good pokemon games were Red,Blue and Yellow 2. Digimon - I liked all the seasons when I was little. You do realize that is hentai, right?
