sorry for poor picture quality, i suck and I'm a whiner anyway :D
So, my buddy comes back to the game just as I leave corp for another more active corp. He agrees to take on the managing of the old corp as a 1 man and his alts gig with my alt as director there just in case something goes wrong.
This alt is an alt on the same account, I want to be clear I might be able to afford two accounts but out of principle and to avoid ridicule from friends and family alike I keep only 1.
So months later my buddy goes awol then decides he's gonna leave game again. Fine. But since he was taking another break the alt corp's POS in high sec has gone offline.
Sigh, so log in with my alt. I want to get the blueprints out that are in mid, research. Select "cancel job" can't do that, the POS lab has to be online.
Trek down to the POS with my main, because my alt can't fly industrials, just a placeholder alt. Get to location of POS, get my alt to make a badger because none are on sale and I can't fly one around since we're at war in empire.
Badger made, I contract it along with POS fuel from alt corp to main, who then has to go to POS, jettison the fuel, log back on with alt, x-fer fuel across to POS, log off get more fuel with main, log on, get more fuel, jett it again at POS log back on with alt, transfer again, online tower, wait 15 minutes.
15 minutes and "you can't online that, you need anchoring lvl 1", log back on with main xfer isk to alt, log in with alt buy skillbook, go get skillbook, come back. Oops, forgotten to pause skill on main, log off, log on with main pause skill, log off, log in with alt train skill. Wait 38 minutes
Start onlining all 7 labs. wait 70 minutes coming back every 10 minutes or so making it take even longer, get bored half way through, come back a few hours later. POS starting to run out of fuel, only got a couple hours left.
Deliver all the BPO's, offline all labs, unanchor all labs, remembering to refuel half way through. Then finally log on with main, haul each lab and finally the tower (which takes another age to offline) individually because badger is pathetically small and no hauling in freighter which i can't use anyway in high sec with empire war going on when the tower isn't online.
I sometimes wonder how many POS are there sitting anchored and offline because someone gave up on trying to refuel it and the effort needed to take it down.
Unfortunately unlike Big Rigs, POS aren't so bad they're comical, just suicide inducing.
Sure I'm not the first person to suggest maybe CCP fix these rather big, fairly important and thoroughly broken systems before implementing anything new. I appreciate it takes time and a lot of effort to debug this kinda stuff, but it's broke and utterly bunk and it is in game now and has been this way for ... longer than it has taken whole other game mechanics to go from back of an envolope to in game fully implemented
And it shouldn't be a case of gritting your teeth and accepting it. I'm not quitting and no you can't have my stuff anyway (the POS will be for sale when I get time to sort all the bits out), just asking for change and having a good ol' whine
.... ah, I feel better now :)
until I realise I forgot to switch skills back on my main >.<

To be honest, from where I'm sitting you're complaining about it because you tried to use a character that wasn't supposed to do anything in the first place and insist on using an alt on the same account as your main. This is your problem. People who use their mains to do this kind of stuff don't really have much of a problem with it.

pos are money making machines. they therefore require work and skills and generally are made easier by having more people involved. I don't see anything that needs to be changed, other than your expectations. -- No love for the Matari |

You should have turned left on the last intersection.
Back to topic: There are 2 main problems there. First, you're trying to use an unskilled alt, and second, you're trying to run a POS alone. They're not nearly as annoying if you have several people to take care of them, and the appropriate characters/tools.
I have to agree on some of your points though, the anchoring/onlining times are insane, anchoring and onlining 12 labs takes no less than 4 hours. Fortunately you only have to do it once if don't ever forget to fuel the tower.

Shame I'm not achura, but nvm.
Back on topic, the point is I'm being punished for taking the thing down because I don't have time to run it. The peverse thing is I have to put it online before I can completely take away everything. I have to pay in time and effort (the very stuff I don't have) if I want to get out of the time/effort required to run the thing.
As a result it is easier to either abandon altogether a POS or keep running it than it is to take one down.
I wouldn't have minded abandonning this particular POS, writing (sp?) it off, no one was likely to war dec corp just to blow up some empty high sec labs. But to get the BPO's out, even if I wanted to cancel all the jobs and lose any progress, I can't cancel the jobs without putting the POS back online
Knowing when you put in the BPO research jobs that you have to be around when they come out and that is a comittment you make is same as the contract you take out to be comitted to refuelling a POS when you put one up.
But both these comittments are fairly big comittments vs. say mission running, where you can spend an equivalent amount of effort making the same isk, but you have the flexibility to play whenever you like, not at specific times and dates that might not be compatible with when you want to play
I don't want to play during exams or family holidays, but I feel I am obliged to, I can't shove the CNR in a hangar and say "see ya in 2 weeks", because these POS are crying like babies, feed me feed me.
What would be nice is a system where you didn't have to micromanage POS, where you could say "I'll just pay some isk, get a bigger fuel bay and maybe be less efficient, but not have to care about refuelling for a month or two"
So yes, I want POS to have an easier option, I want to do the equivelant of just fitting a load of random gear lying in my hanger and going off and run a mission rather than worrying if I have the best named item in this slot or am making maximum efficiency of isk/hour

Edited by: Drasked on 15/01/2008 14:32:49 I really don't see the problem, kind of like whining when you can't pickup stuff from the cargobay of an abandoned megathron you found at a save because you dont have bs lvl 4.

I fully support a change in POS mechanics that would allow anyone to unanchor any offline POSes or structures nearby after X amount of hours.
I just want to keep space clean, you know... I'm tired of getting the Arazu detailed with all the little dings I get bumping into offline crap
