only problem is that when you're finally able to do 100 vs 100 you'll be doing 200 vs 200.
It's a vicious circle that'll never end, the sky is falling!
EVE is like that CCP improves it or fixes it and we go on and break it again - -

Yes but its after the "use-the-search-button-for-the-love-of-god-maybe-you-should-check-out-the-infiniband-stuff" initiative.

so true.
CCP - Now we can say for sure that the servers can handle a 1000vs1000 fleetbattle with ZERO LAG! players - COOL! LET'S PAAATHAY!
some hours later...
players - CCP, servers can't handle 2000vs2000 fleetbattles. FIX IT PLZKTHX! ---

CCP can throw all the hardware they want at the servers, but what they can't fix is the network between the server and your client, and they can't make your client do any better than it can do. There's a point of diminishing returns, how far along the curve things are is hard to determine, but it is there.
Perhaps one day when we all have a fiber link to our homes and every one is running teraflop pocket calculators we'll have lag free battles.
Pesimistic mood today, sorry :)

Sadly for people wanting lag free 1000vs1000 its gonna take something like that if not even more advanced.

In order to reach 200v200 CCP needs to begin with 100v100.. Why would a boss give you a raise? You will be asking for one next year also!

Recent experiences, wrecks and abandonded drones causes lag. Start of fights have significant lag, after 50+ ships been destroyed you get severe lag.
A interesting note. I warped my cloaker to a hostile gate, with wrong overview settings. The grid was virtually insta-loaded. I flipped back to correct setting with no hassle.

The lag between the pc and the cluster is negible, besides I doubt many people would be complaining if there was a 1 or 2 second activation delay (heck that even happens now if you are alone in a system :>).
Anyways infiniband sounds nice, but as said in this thread if it would solve current lag issues us the players would just break it again by creating even bigger blobs of players. --- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs |

i think the best thing CCP could do is improve the servers and NOT announce it, this way we will one day see a lag free large scale fight (shortly there after we'll begin to lag again as people bring more to the fights) ___________________________________________________

The Infiniband upgrade will probably only have marginal decreases of lag in large fleet battles on the same grid. Though the Infiniband upgrade will allow multiple nodes to work on the same system, it will not allow multiple nodes to work on the same grid. So for large fleet battles, you will still be limited to at most one node working on the battle.
In other words, Infiniband is NOT going to give us customers what we think it will. We will still have laggy fleet battles.
The upside about this is that that node will be able to focus *entirely* on that battle, ignoring all other things happening in that system, such as market transactions, station services, battles in other grids, etc...
Of course, if CCP decides to make their battle code multi-threaded, then you could very easily have multiple nodes working on the same grid. But I believe one of the devs stated that they would not be doing this.
