I would like to see capital vessels become a little more potent than they currently are against non capital vessels.. I dont feel capital pilots get a lot of value for isk spent on training / risking there vessels in pvp combat.
I would like to see the devs implement additional modules to increase the defensive capabilities of these giants. Perhaps a serries of modules that can be fitted to boost close defence capabilities. When i think of capital ships i think of vessels like star destroyers from Star Wars... Big levithans that have a deadly array of large weapons to inflict massive damage to foes of equivalent size backed by many baterries of small point defence systems..
Perhaps the modules could be named point defence modules. The point defence modules may have a flat % chance of inflicting a hit on any hostile target within a given range. A number of different version might exist with higher damage, or longer range, or different fitting / cap usage amounts to allow pilots a choice when outfitting for a fight..
New skills could be introduced that increase range, increase damage, reduce cap usage, reduce fitting requirements, etc.. Perhaps even a script that allows focussed fire of point defence modules. Capital ships at present lack value for money and the time invested in developing the skills to fly them.. They need a buff dreadnaughts more so than carriers but given a carrier nerf is likely soon something needs to keep these ships as a worthwhile vessel to spend 6 months and close to a billion isk skilling to fly well..

Role of capital ships. Dreadnoughts are for the purpose of Capital ship engagements and structure disturbance / destruction. They are not supposed to be designed for battleships. battleships are designed, partially to destroy them. Carriers / Mother ships are for fleet support. deployment of fighters to follow fleet members around, logistics for repair, transportation for replacement vessels. Now with the advent of the triage module this objective is even more evident. also, the remote sensor burst, give the mother ship a tactical fleet support advantage. in reality, these are support and super destruction of stationary target ships. they are not anti fleet ships, at a definite least, the dread is not.

Edited by: Amaldor Themodius on 17/01/2008 01:45:39 I kinda agree with the original poster that something needs to be done to improve the flexability of the capital ships, probably the dread class vessels more so than carriers. Currently it doesnt appear that dreads provide much value for the time spent training them and the isk spent to acquire one.
Perhaps as one of the posters mentioned above smart bombs do cover the role suggested by the op.. maybe a capital smart bomb is in order.. not neccessarily doing more damage but a much larger radius..?? As they really are too vuylnerable to smaller ships that are but a fraction of their cost and a fraction of the time spent learning to fly.
