I've only been playing the game for about a month, so my fighting skills are only fair at best. I just began running level 3 missions yesterday and the first storyline mission I received was the ten part series, "Kidnapper's Strike".
As I recall from doing other Storyline Missions, you do not get any faction gain (which is my primary goal) until you complete the entire series. And I learned the hard way that if you quit any stage once you've accepted, you lose a hugh amount of faction.
I read what I could find about this particular mission which included a comment by a player flying a Raven with 6 guided missile launchers. He had to bail out of stage 10 because he was unable to deal enough damage. I'm flying a Drake with 7 heavy missile launchers. It doesn't seem to me I have ANY chance of completing level 10. Is there any point in doing any of the earlier parts of the series?
It seems obvious that I should just cancel it at the start and hope that the next Storyline mission I receive is achieveable.
Isn't this the correct conclusion?

Do you have any corp mates to help you along the way? Because if it's faction standings you want to improve, then storyline missions are what you're after. Having said this, I'd say you're correct in so much as saying that if you have no way to complete the mission (Ie. no help when necessary), then dump the mission. No point going backwards after all.

In part 10, room 3 (this is the part the aforementioned Raven pilot is talking about), there will be a structure you need to pop. You will be able to pop the structure and warp out without needing to kill any of the ships. So no, I wouldn't decline the mission.
That being said, know that you'll have a week to complete all 10 parts. If you don't think you'll have enough playing time in the next week to complete all 10 parts, then decline.

As others have stated you don't need to destroy the ships at the 10th stage, the guy in the raven probably didnt realize that.

Don't be afriad to get help if you need it, but make sure you know who you're dealing with if invited to a gang.

in the last stage you only have to kill the tower (if i remember right), as soon as you attack it, the 2 spawns will attack you, but it doesnt have many hitpoints, so you can kill the tower and than warp out (no scramblers, btw you find most missions on http://www.eveinfo.com and http://www.battleclinic.com/, there are good tips and stuff like that ^^).
i tanked one spawn of the bs in my drake, but did not have enough dps to kill the bs, the other spawn did too much dps for my drake.
in conclusion, you can easely make the whole storyline if you know how to do it.

I did the Blood Raiders version in my Ferox back in RMR. I was barely able to broke their tank. It's pretty easy to dodge the incoming damage by maximizing transversal or distance. It took me a few hours but I managed to clear the whole room.
There should be no problem at all doing this in a Drake with a properly trained pilot.

Be warned 10 BS 13 BC and 12 Frigs ( assuming you hit the tower after killing the group in front of it..is a hell of a lot of damage to take. Try your best to align yourself to warp out QUICKLY. 2.5 salvos from 6 XT-6000 cruise missiles killed it. Pop the tower and leave..I made the mistake of trying to tractor the cargo and sadly lost the first raven due to the firepower.

In the last stage, all you have to do is kill the tower. The other groups of battleships and BC's don't aggro until you shoot the tower, so get all set up, waste the tower, loot(I think?) and then fly off into the sunset.
I of course stuck around to kill those battleships (the first I'd seen while missioning!) Thankfully there were no scramblers, as I had to warp out a couple times as my Drake wasn't handling all the dps all that well - Icould kill one or two BS then leave.

Thanks everyone for all your help! Once I realized I only had to kill one tower, I accepted the mission and just completed it. It was not difficult at all, just a bit time consuming as it took about six hours to do it all.
