Take note of the security status of systems before you engage a hulk in a belt.
Consumption of beer and an exhausting work day might cause you to loose a crow to CONCORD...
(quite confusing when concord is blocked out of your overview and you think a hulk one shotted you)

yup, for me it was a freighter in my hyperion, just as i got it locked i saw the white icon of concord ship fly into my screen.  |

one time i was in a shiny new thorax and saw some kid at a mission 220km off a gate, so i ganged up him and warped him to a planet and popped him, then i died, we shared a lol

Ouch.
That is way more of an expensive loss. I hope the ship wasn't rigged. (which it probably was).
Another good one is when I lost my drake in a battle in low sec, so I fly to a nearby high sec system to buy another one. I undock before the GCC finishes and I get instapopped loosing another drake that was uninsured.
Worst. Pirate. Ever.

Don't let your sec status get high enough to get you killed? 
Bunch o' yellow pirates in this thread... (I'm*****y because I still have yet to jump into highsec in a ship worth more than 250k  )

I'm yellow all the way.
My home turf in venal is quite hostile during my play time and it's hard to make a living so I'm agonizingly doing missions in high sec to cover my losses in both isk and security status.
I think I should look for another corp and try making a living in lowsec where everything isn't nano bull****.
Any suggestions people?

Another thing you should be aware of is that you can get gates with sentry guns at them even though it's a 0.0 system. I know some of you have missed this little fact simply because when I first tried solo pirating myself, I was thoroughly blown up in my kessie this way
