Has anyone ever tried killing one of those NPC industrials that you see sometimes around stations in empire space, or have you ever managed to kill a faction police? Was the loot anygood, or do you just get crap?

Faction police loot is fairly rubbish unfortunately. Test it yourself by jumping into toohighsec in a droneboat or passive FOF Drake.

Edited by: Dosgar on 16/01/2008 12:24:18 I used to take out convoy's solo in a punisher. They drop a lot of trade goods; uranium and the such like, so you'll probably want a hauler to collect the stuff if you plan to profit from them.
There's a trick to getting them. You have to watch (look at) the lead hauler as they all undock. They will eventually align to an other station in the system and when they warp, they just vanish. At that point warp into the station that they were aligned to within 100km and you'll probably find them there. Engage and destroy them, quickly if you're solo or they may crawl into within range of some turrets and you'll probably get aggro from them.
I'm not too sure what the flagging system is with them. Some say you'll only be attacked by the turrets at the station that they belong too, some say it's all in the system. Either way I'd suggest dumping the loot in a safespot and waiting out the timer there to avoid losing a ship. ---------

hmm... This is interesting. I thought you would trigger Concord if you attacked either of those. This could be some fun if it doesn't. Though I know I'll loose a lot of sec. status.

You only lose sec status killing players. You'll lse standing from the NPC corp the convoy belong too.
Also, say if you kill Native Freshfood haulers make sure they warp at a station that isn't a native freshfood one or you'll get killed by guns. And stay away from any Native Freshfood station until your aggression timer with them is over. -- Heat, easy to burn your mods by mistake, hard to get it to work when you need it the most. The NPC industrials are really easy kills and I wipe them out in my rifter all the time but they drop lots of trade goods which means you have to have an industrial of your own to pick the stuff up and it's usually a pain to sell.
You have to watch how far you are from the station where they are heading because if they get too close then the guns will get you and they keep going for the station throughout the fight. The closest I have ever been to the station without being shot is 80 KM and anything less seems to be in range of the sentries.
It's really boring to kill them and not much profit but if you're new a few hits aren't bad.

So the question is do the Concord police come to get you for agro in high sec? Or is it just like killing a rat where its a yellow time and not red??

Someone wrote a comprehensive guide on this one time. It's complicated.
Easiest way to tell is to find a system with lots of different races' stations in them, and fly around looking for npc haulers that don't match the race of the station they're at. The idea is, one corp's sentry guns won't protect another corp's goods.
There's a more complicated way involving understanding their mechanics. The haulers fly out about 100km from the station and then back in, picking up a new hauler on every cycle, until they've got their fill, then they go and warp to another station, so you should only ever attack haulers that are on their way to a station. If they're just flying back from in space, the station guns will get you. You can tell by looking at them and looking where they're coming from in space. If they're flying toward the station from a random spot in space they're just gathering.

Concord does not care and won't get you only the station guns can get you so stay out of range. I would suggest using a cheap ship the first few times because you're bound to get to close like I did a few times. Once you get the hang of it you'll be fine.
It is just like killing a rat but the rats corp owns stations in the system so you may not want to dock in stations that belong to the corp you just attacked.

Faction police loot is ok, I can make about 15-20M an hour killing them with a sniperthron (although you cant do this if you are outlwaw already). If you want to see what they drop ship scan one and it will show you, the best drops are meta 4 MFS's. Per ship the loot is a bit rubbish but when you kill one every 20-30s it soon builds up. It's quite fun to do this at a busy empire gate although the novelty soon wears off.

Talked someone into firing on a retailer in high sec about a week ago. He was insta-owned. Made me laugh though.

Way it seemed to work for me... was it didn't. I was 200k from station, 140k from my target in my sniper eagle. Shot the guy, got insta station aggro and luckily was aligned so I didn't get owned.
If the npc's belong to the station you are at... don't shoot them from closer than 150k from TARGET

I tried popping one of those industrials last night in an .6 system with a Tristan. I died fast.
Do you think a BS might be able to tank those station guns?
I'm trying to figure the best way to go about ganking these things. I have multiple accounts but I'm still not a very experienced combat pilot. I plan on having my second account in a hauler to clean up the goodies.
Surving the high sec sentry guns though is something I'm still trying to figure out. All tips will be useful.
