well i rescently switched over from lvl2 agent to lvl 3 agent. I was using my merlin the whole time but i decided to buy a moa for my lvl 3 agent. My first mission was easy not much difference from lvl 2. My second missin...wtf i almost get pwned by 1x 75k and 2x 35k. Warp jammed and everything.
I got loads of damadge and barley killed them. My moa was setup for pvp at the time but now its setup for npc but im a little worried about it... anyhooo and suggestions would be cool. =This podding has been brought to you by Odet, the only way to fry.= |

Sounds like you had a little bout with Schmidt and two of his Rouge Escort buddies (judging from the bounties).
Anyway, I use a Thorax, and always warp in at 60km and try to keep those mwd rats on range as long as possible, using railguns and tungsten ammo for long range (and I think the Moa has range bonus depending on caldari cruiser skill level as well), and when I can't keep them at range anymore (like when using my mwd would drain too much cap) I switch to plutonium charges for max damage.

Edited by: Asharee Intrefer on 23/03/2004 04:50:11 Did BBBB find out a way to grow torps and cruises on trees, or do you simply not bother about all the minerals that get vaporized with each pop?

Minerals for missiles arent a factor nowadays no... not for those who can make them anyway...
- if you use only cruise and do kill mission agent missions, just the recycle minerals from crap loot outweighs the mineral costs of the cruise used by about 5x.
So.. no, costs of missiles ... not really a factor.
(different story if you have to buy them of course. )

I use a moa for my level 3 agent and dont have have much trouble. I use widowmakers for the 75K and below and cruise for higher and if I get into to trouble.

Yeah, I guess that's true, Morkt. Didn't think about it, since I build Ogres and not missiles out of my reprocessed loot.
And my plants only yield Thorn rockets. What fertilizer do you use?

Amazing how many people spent the time to train Cruise missiles ;) Well, I didnt and to be honest I never had a time where I said "Damn, I wish I had cruise missiles now !". Torpedoes did just fine.
That being said, I do my level 3 missions in a Moa and never had problems. I use some torpedoes for the 55k-85k rats and do the rest of the damage with 4 250mm rails. Before that I used a Caracal. Did fine too, just used too many missiles for my liking, cheaper to use shells with a torpedo every now and then.
The setup I use is this: High: 4x250mm rails (some named), 1xnormal launcher (defenders), 1xnamed heavy launcher (torpedoes)
Medium: 1xMWD, 1xMedium Shield Booster and rest a combination of shield hardners, depending on the mission.
Low: Damage modifier and Reactor Control Units.
For the only mission that is kinda tough, the one with 2 Infernos that shoot cruises, I take out the MWD and put a shield extender.

I guess it should work. But it's a bit slower on those 55k-85k rats, isn't it ?

Edited by: Haxar on 23/03/2004 19:46:13 Jep it's a bit slower, but in my opinion the best option on a Blackbird as you cannot really fit many 250 Rails on it if you want to use a MWD. I am only using one 250 Railgun to keep their shields down till the Havocs land or for really small mobs. ;)

thnx for all the replies boys, looks like i just need to keep my distance and actually be set for npc killing not other players I got all named gear except for my reactor control unit so judging by the responses ill be fine, besides i have uber gunnery skills. =This podding has been brought to you by Odet, the only way to fry.= |

Edited by: Ciber Wulf on 23/03/2004 23:01:29 For combat missions I use a moa, similar loadout to above. Use torps for the harder npc. For courier i favour the osprey.
edit: you pvp in a moa?

i use a blackbird with 2 250rails, 4 tracking computers and 2 low slot damage mods. i have 2 standard launchers equipped but never need them. leave your mwd offline and you will have plenty of cap and shields to keep you out of trouble.

I know this is a bit OT but I've now run missions in most cruisers and I really didn't like the Caldari lineup. Too slow with an mwd, you can recoup the cost of missiles with loot but mission running is about making isk! Not breaking even. You can build a cruiser reasonably regularly with the refined loot u build up from missions.
Stabber is the daddy without doubt, it's minmatar but ooo it's good - like it was built for the purpose
Caldari are v good at some things but I don't think missions are it's forte.
If I had to choose one though it would be a Blackbird for it's cheapness and versatility.

I've done all my lvl3 missions in a kestrel with heavy missiles. Successful so far, altho I did lose a couple of kestrels when I began...good thing I bought 12 of them :D ----------------------------------------------- Stand tall and shake the Heavens. |

I've never had npc problems in my rupture, used to have them with my Stabber but mainly because I was neglecting my long range targeting. The Wahoo Shock Project |
