Module Icon Recognition û Petition
Links Module Define System
Overview After playing EVE online for over 1 year, I can now say I can fly almost every T2 Ship for my role in my race. This includes Battleships fitted entirely with T2 Equipment is a standard fitting for me now. Your fitting screen looks impressive when you open it to see all of the modules on your current ship are titled ôIIö. Equally impressive is when you destroy a ship and you see that notorious yellow tag in that top left hand corner of the item icon. This makes me disappointed when you have spent 1 Billion ISK on a Officer or Dead space module, and it looks like a T1 Item.
What I propose is that all modules for ship equipment enter the æModule Define SystemÆ. The system is based on colour category organisation where every major class of technology is given a colour, and all modules within the category have a tag similar to T2 Items. My example is based from yellow to red, making yellow being the least rare superior technology, and red being the most rare superior technology. You can see what I mean in my example below: -
Module Define System
Although this feature would not have a huge impact on game play, I believe it will add to the aesthetics of the game, and make the Officer, Deadspace and rare items easier to define. No more stories of noobs trashing a æCentus X-type Small Shield boosterÆ because it couldnÆt be sold on the market.
Please can you leave your thoughts and sign if you agree with this idea

Seems fair to me. The officer module sticker should probably a different color since the D and O, and shades of red both look similar. Not that many people use officer mods anyway, but still. Otherwise yeah, this is a good, harmless idea that would seem easy enough to implement.

Cool idea.
I agree that officer and dead space could use a different color.
Maybe have them go for the blue-gree hue spectrum.
One thing that you are still missing is a faction marker.

Should be in features and ideas. Good idea. I would suggest another angle to come from: one corner shows the tech level and the other corner shows the meta level. This removes the requirement to point out what is deadspace, officer, storyline, etc.

Actually yes, a meta level identifier would be great. One question though, are all deadspace modules the same meta level? Are all officer mods and faction mods? If so, being able to categorize or organize your items by meta level would be sweet. It would also make looting easier, as those high meta level items that you never use and can't recognize from their low-meta counterparts would be easier to spot in cans.

how about ccp sets one of it's fine graphics artists to draw some new pics of T1, named T1, T2, and officer/ds mods while there at it or even animate them (please note that i DO NOT take any credits for these pics, someone on these forums made them but i forgot the persons name) CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Arghh nooo not animated icons!
The EVE client lags badly enough as it is when opening corp hangars full of modules, can you imagine the brain-spasm-inducing client seizures that animated icons would cause?!
As for the OP's idea, yeah, love it, awesome, won't happen unfortunately cos if I remember correctly CCP have coded their database in such a way that they can't change the icons for things, at least that was the excuse given for having the same icons for BPO's and BPC's ________________________________________________________________

Oh cmon! don't overreact, first of i meant only for the fitting screen, not while out in space so it shouldn't lag so hard, and i bet the graphics boyz at ccp can do much better then this. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Remote sensor Booster I's are 100m3.
Can they have an icon in the top right to indicate this horror?

Yeah like every frame is loaded from the eve server... Get a better pc if your screen looks like a slide show ---

How about just moving the colour tag to the top right corner for Officer/Deadspace/Faction modules?

Can I direct you to CCP's own recommended PC requirements.
Maybe if they were more honest about the ridiculous processor load, and huge memory leak, we would not be required to buy the latest PC just to run the game on the lowest graphic settings
Get a better PC, is not exactly a shining endorsement of CCP's programming ability

True but starting to whine about lag every time something is added... Why not ditch the entire graphical part of eve and make it textbased? ---

Colour coding is bad. CCP changed the skill requirements icons from red and green books to red crosses and green ticks for a reason. ---- Anything less is wasted effort |
