Have to say I really like this new forum feature. Pages load literally instantly now instead of taking 10 seconds. Things had gotten a bit silly loading a 20KB signature for each of the 20 posts on a page.

Yeah, it seems quite a few of these sig images are stored over really slow connections. It gets annoying trying to scroll through a thread while they're still opening. ---- Anything less is wasted effort |

Hell I'm on wtfbbqfast bb and pages load much quicker now so yes thanks for the option. Though the big ass [IMAGE REMOVED] is a bit annoying especially in the middle of a post. :(

Too bad is a blanket option for smileys, sigs and inline images.
Also maybe it should say

I got that too, made a nice big reply on a thread, clicked to post it and bam it loaded up another "reply" window and cleared the text I typed. COOL!

Small lesson on HTTP performance. As of my reply to this page my browser makes 75 requests to various servers to load all the html, CSS, JS, images and whatever other fluff is included.
I live in Australia and have a nice, fast cable connection BUT the RTT to the eve-online servers is running at about 340ms. Even under best case scenarios that isn't going to drop below about 250.
It's not just raw download speed that is important, latency is an increasingly annoying issue with web pages that include a large number of resources.
The problem is exacerbated by people that know nothing about web standards and have never heard of Expires headers. Actually, this site is a prime example. None of the images in this page have expires headers (although a couple of the JS files do). This means that each time I load a page on this forum I have to ask the eve-o servers if that file has changed and generally get back a 304 response (no, it's not changed, but thanks for asking!).
At a guess I'd say at least 30 of those images are static and have not changed in months if not years so my request to ask if it's changed is (a) unnecessary (b) slowing down the loading of the page (c) adding more load to the eve-o servers
Cheers
