I think it's time we did this. I know a lot of people will go for Castor because it changed so much, but I think the most recent patch is a clear winner, purely for the amount of things that it has actually, truly, indisputably busted up, rather than just changed something to a state that you disagree with, but which still works.
There was a patch a while back that removed the ability of ANY ship to move AT ALL after launch. In it's defence they shut the server down straight away and fixed it, so it doesn't have the "persistence" factor.
Just a reminder, the last patch graced us with;
The Ping (now fixed, thank God) Dodgy Stargates that don't exist Instantly exploding Defender missiles An awful lot of sound effects that disappeared (cans exploding for instance) A broken/unreliable select all command The inability to eject while docking (arguably this is deliberate, but still hateful).
List above is not complete I'm sure - please feel free to add to it - but try and list true "breakages" rather than "state changes". If I get ONE person who can give me a good reason why the eject while docking was removed, I'll take it off the list.
So - first vote goes to the last patch. Any more? ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

Bah, I seem to remember patches back in '03 that were a whole lot worse than this one, with CTDs and whatnot as a consequence. Total catastrophe.
I think the last few patches (and Castor) worked very well, and the design changes were generally good.
Thumbs up, overall.

My personal opinion is that each patch has moved the game in the right direction.
Sure, each patch a new batch of bugs hit the game and sadly some old come back but the old get fixed fast and you cant expect a patch to be completely bug free.
All in all I think the devs are doing a great job improving the game, if it at times feels like a step back then one must remember its only short steps back and big steps forward.
I think of it kind of like the stock market, it goes upp and down but over time the trend is clear and upp.

First there is a patch. Then there is another patch that fixes the problems in the first patch. I like the second patch, and I dislike the first patch - although the first patch also adds something to the game, so I like part of the first patch too.

Honestly this is nothing!! I remember patches whwere the server was more down than up for quite some time. Remember the patch that brought us the black holes? It took them months to fix it.

Well, I must say I'm surprised at the response to this thread, but also very pleased. It's not often people take time out to post positive experiences. You've all cheered me up no end, thanks very much!

Edited by: Death***** on 24/03/2004 18:48:52 Pfft like what others said if u want to see patches, you had to experiance them back in may-july (those where the worst I think). Back then when they said patch day it truely wasn't worth coming onto the server, you'd be crashing the server would restart 10 times in a day during there work hours. It was horribile, now today be lucky if we get a unscheduled reboot in the week.
PS Long live the no server reboot days Fear The Bunny

I agree there have been -truley- horrible patches in the past, but you forgot the, "Board ship all/most modules go offline" bug. That is on helluva bug, lemme tell you. Waiting for 95% cap recharge so you can turn on your cap recharger's to turn on your Reactor units to turn on your CPU units to turn on your weapons/miners is a pain in the virtual ASS

The latest patch was one of the BEST patches, ever.
This is the 1411->1413 patch. You can read what it did in the patch-notes page
- It was ~pure Bug Fixes. - It fixed some basic things. - It came out quickly after those basic things were found; fast turn around like that is appreciated. - It was small. - It was focused, added almost NO new features (thank god).
We need MORE patches like this, not fewer.
New content, functionality, and other ritz doesn't belong in a patch. Patches fix bugs, fill in security holes, and improve performance.
New content, features, and c_rap should be saved for "upgrades". Upgrades should be less frequent than targetted patches.
I'd like to commend the Devs and Such who gave us the latest patch, 1413.

Uh, let's not get too free with the praise here. 1413 basically just fixed what they screwed up in 1411. ---

Well, and 1413 added new bugs like the defender bug. In 1411 the defenders were working as in the last month before.

Could someone explain the intelligence behind the MWD not working while capacitor charge is below 95%. 90% would have been more resonable or is it just an addition to apease the pirates that are part of the GM group?

Your mwd is probably offline, you need 95% cap to bring something online --
