Is there any reason i shouldn't use 3 salvage scanners on the same wreck? it seems to speed things up. this isnt hurting my chanse of actually pulling something or anything, is it?

I don't think so, I do the exact same. Unless there are multiple wrecks within range, that is. Happy salvaging!

Only thing is, it burns up your capacitor. Most people say use a destroyer for salvaging, because it can fit 4 tractorbeams and 4 salvagers, but I found that with the addition of an afterburner the capacitor just couldn't handle it. (I was flying the Minmatar destroyer, Thrasher.) A cruiser with three of each would probably be better. I used a Stabber with 3 TB, 3 salvagers, and a 10MN afterburner with great success. Cruisers can also carry more cargo -- I assume you're collecting the loot as well as the salvage?

None at all!
When you start your salvaging run with the first salvager, if it's successful the other salvagers will fail because the wreck was already salvaged.
However if the first salvager fails to salvage anything, instead of having to wait another whole cycle, you only have a second or so to wait until the next salvager's cycle completes, and if that fails, another second or so later the third salvager finishes - three goes is usually enough to get a successful salvage, which is why it seems to speed things up - you are doing your salvage cycles concurrently instead of consecutively.
If you have a dedicated salvaging ship it's a far cheaper alternative to salvage tackle rigs.

It makes it faster in the fact that if one fails you still have 2 more chances at the same time to succeed.

btw, i find that ratting/ salvaging, i like this shield config.
5x200mm autocannon II 3xSalvager I
1x 200mm Rolled tungsten Plate 1x armor repairer 2x Shield extender II's 1x Cold gas Afterburner
{edit} And yes, i am getting the loot, as well. unless someone else killed it, then i just salvage and leave the can.
{edit2) b/c i forgot my rifter is the one with 2 armor hardeners, thrasher has only 1

I have a specific salvaging destroyer (catalyst), which has 4 TB and 4 salvagers, 1 run and ab and have 3 expnaded cargoholds. This is a great combination and if you lack capacitor, then all you need to do it train up energy management and engy systems.
Its the only use i found that destroyers have as they have no tank for any fighting.

The destroyer does make an excelent salvager. I ran one with a similar settup to the one above with a MWD. And I had no significant problem with cap.

I came across this discussion months ago. What I found in reading was yes it makes it faster per wreck, but if the 1st salvager makes a successful salvage then the other 2 salvagers still have to complete their cycles. Therefore, you loose time, sometimes.
I did it your way at 1st and was happy. I switched to one salvager per wreck method and I have not been unhappy, but I also have tractor beams and fly to the other pockets of wrecks, so having one on each wreak seems more efficient now. I have no numbers to back my methods up, just research and my personal satisfaction.

I use a dedicated Destroyer with 4 Salvagers and 4 Tractors and pretty well solved the CAP problem by adjusting my salvage operations tactics as I will explain.
First off in many missions when you are destroying the rats you can often do it in such a way as to kind of corral them into a kill zone so that all the recks are as close together as possible. It is not that difficult to almost kill them but not quite while having them follow you til they are in your salvage coral area. Then kill them off.
After returning to the wrecks in your Destroyer you often can park your ship in the middle of the wreck field so that you can come to a complete stop. No need to use an AB then.
At that point you can begin pulling in the wrecks the farthest away from you until they are right next to you. Always turn off the Tractor Beams once they are max close to you so your not running both the salvagers and beams at the same time.
If you leap frog the operations and always remove loot before engaging the salvager you kinda develop a rythem for the whole project and it all goes very quick without ever running out of cap. Somtimes I beam 4 of the furthest craft and then AB myself to the dead center of the wreck field where I won't have to move again before most (if not all) of the wrecks are picked.
Cap is never a problem once you learn how to do the entire operation keeping CAP efficiency in mind.
Another great time saving tactic is to do three missions in a row and after each mission before heading back to the agent BOOKMARK the wrecks location. Then return and have agent pay you off and assign you another mission. Do this at least times and after the third mission you will have 3 or more bookmarks (depending on number of rooms in the missions)of wreck fields to return to and salvage.
As well if you do it this way the DEAD SPACE will be gone and you can use a Micro Warp instead of an AB.

If you have multiple wrecks, spread the salvagers over multiple wrecks. I can target 5 and have a salvager on each. This is more efficient than having 5 salvagers on one wreck. It's all chance based and with 5 salvagers on one wreck you're guaranteeing four of them will fail. If all salvagers are on their own wreck, they all have a chance to succeed.
If you have limited wrecks in range then double up on the salvagers, but only if there's no other wrecks available.
Cheers Falka

There are two different factors governing your salvaging speed on any particular wreck.
1) How far you have trained the Salvage Skill 2) How many Salvager's you have working the wreck.
If you are just starting out and have Salvaging only trained to level I or something - than doubling up on the Salvager's helps.
Once you've got Salvaging trained up to level 4 ... you'll usually harvest the wreck pretty fast even with just one salvager so here it really starts to pay to spread your salvager's out.
If you've got 4 Salvager's and only one wreck - by all means - use them all on it. It doesn't hurt anything as long as they don't have anything else to salvage.
I've never had any cap problems unless I forgot to turn the AB off ...
I tend to put my tractors on a target, pull it in and then switch to another target so that I'm pulling in a new wreck even as the salvager's are working the first.
If there are no other targets to pull I turn them off.
If there is a ship that is outside the 20km range of the Tractor's and some that are in it - I will tractor the ones in range while I am traveling to the one that is out of range. The tractors will pull the wrecks right along in your wake.
So, you can use your ship as well as the tractors to close on wrecks. It all just depends on how the wrecks are distributed.
You can't tractor someone else's wreck though - so here - if you've got wrecks of your own and other people's un-salvaged wrecks - use your ship to close on the yellow wrecks and pull the white ones with your tractors.
If they are still in system, it is always nice to ask before salvaging other people's wrecks though (unless you're a pirate anyway and don't care). Even if you are a pirate - showing other players some common courtesy doesn't hurt. Chances are - that if you don't see them actively salvaging the wrecks - they aren't going to care.
Of course ... as mentioned ... looting other peoples wrecks - unless you are LOOKING for a fight ... isn't worth losing your ship over when you aren't LOOKING for a fight.
Other factors in what you do depend ... again ... on your situation and the missions you are running.
I've taken to running my low level missions with the Destroyers and putting some mixture of guns, tractor beams and salvager's on them, the mixture depending on how much money I've got and what kind of guns are in the hanger at the moment.
I also like to run with an alt in another Destroyer which is either another salvage boat or a gun boat - again depending on the character's skills, money, equipment availability, etc, etc.
For low level missions ... it doesn't much matter. As long as the Destroyers can handle the mission while carrying some salvager's and tractors ... you'll save the time of warping back to where ever you other ship is and fetching it.
When it does start to matter ... bring in bigger ships for the mission and use your dedicated Salvage Boats to clean up.

Skills will let you get to the point where you can run those 4 tractors and 4 salvagers and an AB on a destroyer without running into as many cap issues.
Energy Systems Operation and Energy Management are key. Very helpful for cap on any type of ship.. PvP, mining barge, whatever.
A cap recharger or cap battery in that other mid slot helps too.

I keep hearing this, but I haven't run into this problem. I use a Catalyst, and I have a capacitor recharger and capacitor power relay along with afterburner, four tractors and four salvagers. I can't really remember the last time I ran out of capacitor.
